Also, little stand things are great for angling your speakers up a bit
Looks great! Only suggestion is to get something to isolate the speakers from the desk surface - this will reduce vibrations onto the desk and improve low end sound quality. I use these: https://www.amazon.com/Audioengine-Desktop-Speaker-Stands-Pair/dp/B005STCILC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1487438713&sr=8-1&keywords=audioengine+stands
Wtf two seconds of googling

You're not doing those speakers justice setting them on cardboard boxes
They are literally just called speaker stands.

Get yourself one of these
I have it with my Audioengine A5+, and have em placed sideways. Right now I have them behind my monitors, as I'm testing how it sounds from there. Here's a picture of my desk I just took They sound great. I usually have them in front of the monitors but I like leaning back so the sound isn't always the best since I'll be leaning too close to one speaker. But now that the speakers are placed behind the monitors, they sound pretty good. The top of the speakers are a bit blocked, but that doesn't harm the audio quality at all (at least nothing noticeable.) So I think I'm going to keep them like this.
I'd definitely position your speakers so they aren't angled inward so severely. You want the point where they "meet" to be just behind your head, and as-is they're meeting like at the base of your keyboard. I'd also pick up some wedges, like this, so they're actually directed at your ears rather than your chest.
Audioengine DS2 Desktop Speaker Stands
Looks like they went up in price since I bought them by about $10. Might be able to find them cheaper somewhere else.
I love those speakers. I'd recommend getting some stands like these, you'll def notice the improvement in sound when they're angled correctly.
Got them off Amazon: Audioengine DS2
I'd recommend elevating them to make sure you get the right experience. I bought their recommended stands and its more direct and enjoyable.
EDIT: Link to the stands I own. They seem to reduce the rumble and they look better than if I made anything myself.
These are pretty solid. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005STCILC/
I'm using them with my a-40s and they work great.
Found 'em
They are called speaker stands, the ones in the image are the Audioengine DS2 Desktop Speaker Stands. If you liked anything else in the image, check out this video of the entire setup

I’m using these!!

I love those speaker stands. I’d seen others with those and I was lusting after them. The stands themselves are nothing too special but they just make your speakers pop.

The controller is just an Xbox one x controller. I will have to get the white one at some point to better match the setup.

He linked to them above
We are loft brethren. Something something master race something.
One suggestion, get some speaker wedges for your desk to angle them at you. It will greatly improve your sound quality for minimal cost.
Or better yet, if you're even one tenth crafty, make some clamp stands! They are very easy to make.
I own Audioengine DS2. I've used them with speakers of the same size. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005STCILC/
Nice setup man!
If you're trying to get better performance out of your loudspeakers, I highly recommend getting them on some stands. You want your tweeters to be at ear-level or close enough that you can tilt the speakers a bit to make a difference. This is because treble is very directional. The other reason that stands make a big difference is mechanical isolation. When your speaker cabinets make direct contact with your desk, their vibrations transfer out of the cabinets and into your furniture, which muddies up the sound.
If you want something cheap, AudioEngine DS2's would probably do the job. If you want something a bit better where you can tweak it a bit more to your liking, I highly recommend getting a pair of IsoAcoustics stands. I was able to A-B several loudspeakers on and off of the stands before I bought them, and they make a very noticeable difference. They come with 2 different heights of poles as well as two different size spacers for fine tuning or tilting. The correct size for your monitors according to the IsoAcoustics site would be a pair of ISO-L8R155's.
I use these under my M-Audio AV 40s:
[Audioengine DS2 Desktop Speaker Stands] (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005STCILC)
They're made of hard rubberized material. They work well, especially considering they replace stacks of books that previously held my speakers at the right height. :)
I got rid of the big ass ugly foam shit stands evryone has and picked these up for the Mackie(5) - Let me know I can DM you a pic... They look super sexy

Audioengine actually has their own DS2 stands. I got mine for $29, but I guess they went up a little in price.
Hey smart looking set up! One thing though Id recommend you toe in your speakers and if possible get you some of these https://www.amazon.com/Audioengine-Desktop-Speaker-Stands-Pair/dp/B005STCILC/ref=sr_1_18?keywords=speaker+riser&qid=1573206481&sr=8-18
Thanks for your reply!
As room is an issue at this point- do you think speaker stands would help at all?:

I see a lot of setups with angled stands like these

Would anyone suggest bookshelf speaker foam wedge isolation pads to hold my speakers up while still sharing the same surface as the turntable? Here is the link for those curious to what they look like.

Looks great!
If the tweeters in the speakers are aimed at your nipples, you need speaker stands.
Best sound usually comes when the tweeters are aimed at your ears and toed in to point directly at your head. You could use small stands, or something like this can work because it angles the speakers up https://www.amazon.com/Audioengine-Desktop-Speaker-Stands-Pair/dp/B005STCILC/ref=asc_df_B005STCILC/
In the meantime, you could try stacking books underneath to get the speakers up in the air. Yoga blocks also work.
Sorbotane pads are useful to isolate the speakers, so while I do advise you get some(these would be fine), you'll want to add enough height underneath them so that the midpoint between the tweeter and woofer is at your ear's level. A lot of people are happy with these stands, which isolate as well, eliminating the need for pads.
An alternative is to tilt them upwards: https://www.amazon.com/Audioengine-Desktop-Speaker-Stands-Pair/dp/B005STCILC but it's not as good.
Looks like these: http://www.amazon.com/Audioengine-Desktop-Speaker-Stands-Pair/dp/B005STCILC/ref=pd_sim_pc_1 Please correct me if i'm wrong, OP.
