Issue: I need a good sunscreen, preferably one that dries matte (or as close as I can reasonably get).

Skin type: Dry and sensitive

I don't currently use the regimen, but I did in the past.

I did have luck with it. My face got clear and looked great. I used the cleanser, the BP but, I found I did not like the moisturizer.

I also used the Jojoba Oil, which made my skin glow! It doesn't break you out, well it didn't break me out, but others have said it didn't break them out either.

You don't have to use the Jojoba Oil. You can just use moisturizer. It's completely up to you. I recommend reading the reviews. I will link you to the sites that are most helpful for skin care product reviews.

You can definitely use alternatives, but honestly Acne.org's BP is amazing and way better than store brand like Neutrogena's BP.

I currently don't use any face wash. I only scrub my face with sugar like 2x a week. It's helped a lot. My complexion is still somewhat spotty, but for the most part it's not too bad.

Now, for the alternatives for the regimen. I can't seem to find the page with alternative products, but I do remember them.

Alternative to Acne.org Cleanser:

Basis Sensitive Skin bar

Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser

Alternatives to BP :

Neutrogena BP (This is the only I can recall)

Alternative to Acne.org Moisturizer:

I pulled this off of a forum post:

"Cetaphil or CeraVe are as close to Dan's moisturizer you are going to get in the store brand market... Anything else is either overly irritating or don't offer enough moisture for your skin on the regimen..."

Neutrogena is also a great brand for moisturizer.

When I was on the regimen I used Aveeno Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer SPF15. My skin looked great on that. I don't use it anymore, but it does work nice. It didn't break me out.

I'm a guy, but I've had to use facial moisturizers ever since I went on Accutane when I was younger, so I have experience in this area.

For starters, you want a facial moisturizer that is both noncomedogenic (won't block pores) and hypo-allergenic. It will say this on the back. Also, if you are sensitive to the sun, try to get one that has SPF 15 in it.

Funny that the Positively Radiant one made you break out. That's been my go-to for years as it moisturizes very well and even contains 0.5% salicylic acid to help curb breakouts. The small amount of salicylic acid doesn't make me feel any drier and is great at regulating breakouts without needing to use benzoyl peroxide before moisturizing. But then again there's two different Positively Radiant products out on the market. I've no experience with the "Active Naturals" version of it, but maybe that's the one you're getting and it's not working out?

Someone else recommended the Neutrogena Oil-Free Moisturizer for Sensitive Skin and I used that for a bit and it worked out great. There's also a variant of that with Alpha-Hydroxy acid in it which also seemed to help even out my skin tone (always have had a pretty uneven skin tone on my face due to my previous teenage-year bouts with acne). However, you might not want to dive in to it since there's a possibility it will just make you feel drier.

Cetaphil is a brand marketed towards people with acne who want a moisturizer that won't clog pores. I love the stuff for my body as it moisturizes probably better than any other product I've used, but when it's on my face it has an odd texture that makes you feel like its clumped up (it's not) and it's very greasy so I don't use that.

The other one that worked very well for me (but still not to the degree that the Aveeno one has, which is why I continue to use it) is the CeraVe Facial Moisturizing Lotion.

As for chapped lips (if this is an issue) go with Carmex, hands down. It works way better than any other lip moisturizer and doesn't need to be reapplied obsessively like Chapstick or Burt's Bees.

Other tips:

-Use an exfoliant once per week. Don't go overboard and use one every single day, as that will just further irritate your already-irritated skin. There's no question that St. Ives Apricot Scrub is your best choice here. Exfoliated skin can retain moisturizing lotions better than flaking skin. Just use it sparingly. Experiment with it.

-Try finding a shampoo without SLS in the ingredients (it's tough since almost every shampoo you'll see has it in it, but there are plenty without) to both avoid hair damage as well as having the shampoo run down your face and further irritate your skin.

-Shower in warm water rather than hot water. Hot water irritates skin and dries it out.

-Try adding Fish Oil into your diet, as it's known to have palliative effects on dry skin.

-Put a humidifier in your bedroom.
