For a little more you can pick up an AverMedia LGP. Shit is so cash.

Portable capturing to an SD card, internal processor, great color and contrast. Only problem is that I have no idea if it's compatible with the Wii or not.

u/CactiXVI · 3 pointsr/leagueoflegends

Link to what appears to be Regi's new "webcam", which I'm pretty sure is a video capture device used to record gameplay. Not sure about its application for streaming purposes, but it doesn't seem to be a webcam like he thought.

u/askerOne · 3 pointsr/smashbros

It depends which card you are buying , there are cheap ones that cost just 30$.Of course their quality isn´t the greatest
Many streamers have one of those 2 :

http://www.amazon.com/AVerMedia-Portable-Capture-Xbox360-60Mbps/dp/B00B2IZ3B0/ref=zg_bs_284824_6

http://www.amazon.com/Elgato-Capture-PlayStation-Definition-Recorder/dp/B00840353W/ref=zg_bs_284824_1

-> you don´t need a crazy expensive PC either. The most important thing is your upload speed though.

-nope, just two hdmi cables I believe

-It should record fine, it does all the processing etc in the pvr itself I believe

-it's pretty crap software, but yes.

-I would say avoid happauge at all cost. I have had two HD PVRs and a Colossus from them (they were the only reasonably priced HD capture cards on the market for a while) but their service is lousy and their software sucks.

Even though it's more, I would suggest something like AverMedia Live Gamer Portable or the Elgato Game Capture HD

I have an AverMedia (an internal card, but same software and whatnot) and my experience with it has been so wonderful. The software is decently configurable, and their support was better then I was expecting when I had a couple questions. I have no personal experience with the Elgato but it seems to be rather popular with YouTubers.

>My only concern is that I don't have the ability to record a video on my Xbox.

Not if you have a smartphone.

Take your smartphone, prop it up on some books or some pillows, and then record some play. Not every video has to be 1080p.

EDIT: Or if you have some scratch saved up:

Though this one is $10 cheaper and easier to use IMHO:

I have heard that the avermedia LGP is good for capturing game play with OBS http://www.amazon.com/AVerMedia-Portable-Capture-Xbox360-60Mbps/dp/B00B2IZ3B0

Also i would recommend watching this video by JackFrags so you get an idea of how the set-up would work https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wqqU95c46pA

u/HeadacheHeroes · 2 pointsr/letsplay

I've been looking into getting that Avermedia Live Gamer Portable for the PC-less recording feature it has, instead of lugging my computer tower around to record, and I was just wondering if anyone else has had experience with it? Any details would be great (ease of setup, recording with commentary, quality, etc etc). Appreciate it.

u/rod156 · 2 pointsr/techsupport

You can buy a capture card, then take a DVI or HDMI output from your computer into the capture card. You can do the same for sound, using the 3.5mm plug.

The other option is to buy a hardware accelerated recorder like the Avermedia Live Gamer Portable or the Gamer HD which work sort of a computer and capture card in one.

u/wisdom_and_frivolity · 2 pointsr/SF4

A capture device of some sort. I don't have a recommendation though as I haven't used one, but this is an example

Or you can try the youtube upload feature built into the game.

no this is wayyyy better

u/RaskoSmash · 2 pointsr/SSBM

Hey DDT, I was thinking about getting a capture card for melee. I don't want to spend money on a laptop so I'm very interested in the AverMedia Live Gamer Portable.

So my question is, what else would I need to record on the pc free mode? Would this be safe to bring to tournaments?

u/DJP0N3 · 2 pointsr/speedrun

> maybe someone else can recommend HD recording dewvices?

Popular HD video capture devices include the AVerMedia C875 or the Elgato Game Capture HD.

u/another_new_username · 2 pointsr/redditcasual

You speak the truth. I'd like to find an affordable capture card that's Linux friendly at some point in the future.

As far as cellphone recordings of TV go, though, it wasn't that bad. Hell, as far as cellphone recordings go PERIOD it wasn't that bad. At least it was horizontal and I didn't scream "WOOOORLDSTAAAAR!!"

Edit: It looks like something like this might be my best bet.

u/MHFsilver · 2 pointsr/speedrun

If you're looking for something cheap, try an EasyCap. If you want something that's decent but not too expensive, check out a Dazzle DVC100. Or if you're big into quality and don't really care about the price, check out an AverMedia.

I got this Avermedia one. I mainly use the PC Free Mode. I've played through about 3 different TVs with this one and have not noticed any lag when playing.

u/abrandnewuser · 1 pointr/speedrun

Avermedia lgp is my personal favorite.

u/bagofwiggins · 1 pointr/Tribes

I use an avermedia live gamer portable. Works great with my gaming laptop and allows me to record without taking ANY frame hit.

u/ContemplativeOctopus · 1 pointr/SSBM

You just need to carry the memory card with you.

If you're rollin in that dough then this is the best (maybe only?) option to record without a computer: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00B2IZ3B0/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=2SDHJYONXPZ92&coliid=IZ59O3DARLBP8&psc=1

u/Papa_Xray · 1 pointr/Twitch

I have heard mixed reviews on this card from different streamers. Apparently you have to make sure that it is compatible with the motherboard chipset (not sure exactly what that means). I have used avermedia cards before and they are really reliable, this one to be exact. I don't know if they have added compatibility with OBS and the avermedia cards, if not you are going to have to download an additional program from the avermedia site. Hope this helps.

u/Solid_Serpent · 1 pointr/letsplay

MSI Afterburner is not really much better, I've heard good things about DxTory though, I recommend one of these if you don't want to deal with huge .avi files and a chugging framerate

u/e_x_i_t · 1 pointr/retrogaming

I went through that and the other devices on there didn't seem very appealing and just ended ordering the Startech with some credit I had, I'll probably sell my Elgato if I end up liking it and at worst I can just return it. I was considering getting this [AVerMedia](https://www.amazon.com/AVerMedia-Portable-Recording-Definition-Streaming/dp/B00B2IZ3B0/ref=sr_1_1?m=A2L77EE7U53NWQ&s=warehouse-deals&ie=UTF8&qid=1499474340&sr=8-1&keywords=Live%2BGamer%2BPortable%2B(C875), but it seemed gimmicky more than anything and I know the Startech will likely do everything I want it to.

Anyway, thanks for the input.

u/HarrisonE · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

Not exactly. Those can only really increase peformance if you put them in another pc.

More so something like this.

u/SirMistery · 1 pointr/SSBM

Is there someone here who records gamecube games using the Live Gamer Portable?

Of course using rca cables since gcn components cables are expensive. This is the perfect capture card for me as it has everything I need except for the fact that it can't record the gamecube. I know that you can use a wii w/ an hdmi adapter (which I have), however, I want to take it to tournaments to record my own games.

u/Keaur · 1 pointr/Twitch

I did a little bit of research on the product you currently own.
It appears that your product only provides direct video to a monitor. It doesn't seem to go through your laptop's OS as far as displaying the source's video feed.

To simply answer your question, if you bought a higher-end capture card, you wouldn't need to use this VGA converter. You could plug in your Gamecube to your capture card, plug the capture card into your laptop, and use the provided software to play off of your laptop.

If you have a low to mid-range laptop, I'd recommend getting a capture card that takes most of the strain off of your CPU, such as this card: http://www.amazon.com/AVerMedia-Portable-Capture-Xbox360-60Mbps/dp/B00B2IZ3B0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1416326367&sr=8-1&keywords=aver+media+portable

There are definitely some options if you want to pursue streaming on your laptop, but a desktop rig is most recommended. I recommend doing some research on the matter to get the best possible outcome for your price point. You may PM me if you have any questions. I wouldn't mind helping.

If you are looking for a cheap option that can record HDMI best option is to look for something designed for video game capture like this. https://www.amazon.com/AVerMedia-Portable-Recording-Definition-Streaming/dp/B00B2IZ3B0 This will work as a capture card or standalone recorder. Once you leave the hardware made for gamers the prices go up. The best HDMI capture cards I've used are the Epiphan AV.io USB capture cards. They only work to get HDMI/SDI video into a computer and don't do any recording on there own. Unlike the cheaper capture cards they don't require any device specific software or even drivers to work on a Mac or Windows Machine. There more stable and won't cause bluescreen and crashing like the cheaper capture cards can. You can also use more than one at the same time unlike the cheaper ones. https://www.amazon.com/AV-io-HD-video-capture-1080p/dp/B00ZH7HRKW is the cheapest one that will handle 1080p. They have a 4K version as will as a SDI version.

u/SethHB · 1 pointr/speedrun

First you want to pick a game that you love ("any game at all") and the reason why I say a game you love because you want a game you can speedrun and not become tired of it after a while. Now practice the game until you can get equipment (start out short on equipment you dont need the best thing there is for just starting unless you can afford it) after a while of practice get this: ( http://www.amazon.com/AVerMedia-Portable-Capture-Xbox360-60Mbps/dp/B00B2IZ3B0/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1404429425&sr=1-2&keywords=avermedia+live+gamer+hd )Then when you have practiced and got all of your basic things you can start running and timing it with any of these things it shows everything else you need here: ( http://www.speedrunslive.com/tools/ ) That's all there is to it and later on you might want to get something like a microphone if you want to talk and for that I recommend any "Blue Yeti" microphone.
And that's that there you go!

http://meleeiton.me/2014/03/27/this-tv-lags-a-guide-on-input-and-display-lag/

They did a test with a comparable monitor and the adapter + LCD combo gave < 6 ms of lag.

Seems like high end video capture devices give less lag but regular converters still aren't bad.

These are the converters they used.

u/Pyroraptor · 1 pointr/letsplay

Hard to say without knowing your computer. The Avermedia portable can record to an SD card. Then you could put the SD card into your computer to render the video :D

u/Trexid · 1 pointr/obs

To save yourself a lot of time I recommend throwing money at this if you want to stream from your laptop successfully.

http://www.amazon.com/AVerMedia-Portable-Capture-Xbox360-60Mbps/dp/B00B2IZ3B0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1407285581&sr=8-1&keywords=live+gamer+portable

I bought one last year when it was on sale and its great.

Good luck!

u/NekoGamiYuki · 1 pointr/Twitch

What are you going to use such a powerful camera for? I wouldn't see any reason for it. If you want a facecam then just use some of the MUCH less expensive webcams that still have great video quality. I believe you can use a capture card for the WiiU, from what I remember it doesn't have any HDCP to block you from recording.

A good webcam: http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Webcam-Widescreen-Calling-Recording/dp/B006JH8T3S/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1410922304&sr=1-1&keywords=webcam

A good capture card: http://www.amazon.com/AVerMedia-Portable-Capture-Xbox360-60Mbps/dp/B00B2IZ3B0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1410922339&sr=8-1&keywords=avermedia+live+gamer+portable

u/ThatLilChestnut · 1 pointr/smashbros

Some people say that this device does a pretty good job of reducing input lag. I have limited experience with it in this regard, but some people (such as Scar I believe) use it in combination with one of the very low lag displays from here: display lag database

u/crinjworthy · 1 pointr/letsplay

The Avermedia Live Gamer Portable has worked flawlessly with my PS3 for game capture and streaming. I use the PS3's component video output to capture it, but I don't notice the difference compared to HDMI output when playing games. It can't capture at 1080p60 though, maxing out at 1080p30 or 720p60 instead, so keep that in mind.

u/josephgee · 1 pointr/smashbros

The LGP, there are similar options from other companies that may possibly produce better or worse results but that encoder has been shown in testing very little lag.

You'll want a gaming monitor though as well.

I think reddit ate my other comment because I put the smashboards tag on the link, oops.

u/RinHara5aki · 1 pointr/Breath_of_the_Wild

Its never too late to pick up a capture card and start editing :) I use avermedia live gamer portable, honestly its not the most amazing quality but since botw is 900p is does fine. There are definitely better cards out there and they're cheap now since there's so much internal recording with consoles these days, they have to compete. This is the one I have but there are better now-

https://www.amazon.com/AVerMedia-Portable-Recording-Definition-Streaming/dp/B00B2IZ3B0/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1509771701&sr=8-2&keywords=live+gamer+portable

As for story, I first of all, don't really know where to go, and also there are limited clips I can really use for this occasion. I could pull some of the 12 flashback/memory clips but I can't use MY clothes/gearset in that to use it fully... I'm kinda stuck now actually.

u/samsimpson11 · 1 pointr/apple

Elgatos' are great (I have one) but it relies on the computer in terms of some of the processing and recording. One cheap alternative (which I in hindsight I should have bought) is the Avermedia Live Gamer Portable. It does the processing on the actual device and can record to an sd card or to a computer. It has audio in/out and streaming capabilities (with computer) It's worth a good look.

Oh sweet! All I need is a ~$1500 computer?? Or I could buy one of many sub-$200 cards and use it with any existing computer.

If you decide to go with the capture card route, you'll also need ~$60 in hardware for a lightning to HDMI adapter, and an HDMI splitter, but $60 + $200 > ~$1500.

If you already own a Mac, power to you! Otherwise, it's not the end of the world.
