There are better options period. Bose is not particularly bad, and what they do for active noise canceling is the best. That being said, that noise cancellation comes at a price. It gives a lot of people headaches. It messes a bit with sound.
There are nearly audiophile grade headphones you can get for that price that can still be powered by a phone or mp3 player.
I recommend the Bower & Wilkins P7 http://www.bowers-wilkins.com/Headphones/Wired-Headphones/Wired-Headphones/P7.html?gclid=CjwKEAjw_bHHBRD4qbKukMiVgU0SJADr08ZZavsMA5W0G77COTG-L-vF5vOwNL468N57e7vIGG__EBoCgBnw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds#fo_c=870&fo_k=f95519a7d74060d6dafbfe37a407a799&fo_s=gplaus&fo_oid=4610
or Bang & Olufsen Beoplay H6 or H9

When you are looking for very nice headphones make sure you look at ohm rating. High # (over 32) would mean you will need an amp.
The B&W are fairly BIFL for a consumer grade. The parts are metal, the chords are replaceable and detachable and the foam pads are designed to come off. They are arguably the most comfortable headphones for any type of ear because of their over the ear shape and also offer pretty good passive noise cancellation.

I don't think either are particularly bassy, but do sound very good, I think the Meze have decent soundstage, I don't remember about the H6's, only that they sounded quite good, and at 200$ for the black ones, it's a steal. I think they're normally like 400$.

I would suggest finding some Fostex THX-00's used, you can generally find them below $300, maybe even find one where the owner did a removable cable mod, I did it on my own pair and highly recommend it. The TRX-00's are the newer version with a removable cable, but harder to find used. They sound better with an amp, but your phone will power them decently, and the bass is unlike any headphone you've ever heard. The Sub bass is more like being in a room with a sub, than headphones, though they're not "bass heavy" the bass is just of an extremely high quality, and very strong and responsive. Buying them new is more like 450-500$ depending on the type of wood you get, but on the used market you can get them for a massive discount, I got my pair for 190$.

All of these work with the VModa BoomPro microphone.
Well the M50x is the update with detachable cables. Some people love it and some people hate it.
Sennheiser HD598C is another popular choice these days that's comfortable but will offer a bit less isolation.
The first Gen Beoplay H6 is a steal at the current price and something I think is very underappreciated.
Beoplay H6 £135
