Follow the team on SNY and listen on the radio on WOR 710-AM or online. Howie Rose does the games on the radio and used to do Rangers games (and Islanders games until recently). There's a picture of Howie kissing the Stanley Cup in his book after the Rangers won in 1994. Howie will also sneak in an occasional hockey reference in the Mets broadcast.
I read coverage of the team in the Times and Wall Street Journal. I follow NYMStats and Adam Rubin on Twitter and I avoid the more hysterical fans. Avoid sports radio like the blowhard Mike Francesa.
Learning about baseball in general, I recommend Watching Baseball Smarter by Zack Hample, here on Reddit at u/zackhample. He doesn't bite.
I also recommend going to games and listening on the radio. If you do go to Citi Field, ask for the game notes from the fan information booth. If you see some old guys taking score with a golf pencil and a paper sheet, ask them questions. They know their baseball.
