This topic comes up about once a week so I'll just copy and paste my usual response to the DJ headphone question.

"Beyerdynamic DT 1350's. Isolation as good as HD 25's, equal sonic prowess, more stylish, and comes with a nice flat semi-rigid case that holds adapters and flash drives. I've owned and worn tons of headphones over the years and these are the best I've come across for DJ'ing by a wide margin."

Considering your music tastes and budget, you'd probably be better off with a pair of open full-sized phones for home and a pair of iems for the road/travelling.

For the full-sized pair, the Audio Technica AD700 are great for the price. These are great for gaming and music. The highs and mids are great for the price and they have a really large soundstage(i.e. great positional audio). The bass does not go as deep as some other headphones(i.e. not as much rumble) but the clarity and quickness makes up for that. Also, the music genres you listed aren't heavy on bass. These are full-sized, fully open headphones, meaning a more airy, natural sound but you won't get any isolation. They are also pretty big and not convenient for travel.

For travel IEMs, something like the Vsonic VC02, GR02 or GR06 are good performers for the price. IEMs in my opinion are far more convenient to travel with and will isolate better than portables. They're more fragile than regular headphones though, so make sure to lightly coil them and store them in a pouch when you're not using them. Never knot them as you see in some youtube tutorials.

That's my preference anyway. If you're set on a closed set, the Brainwavz HM5 or their jaycar clone(pretty much exactly the same thing without the brand name) are great value. The Audio Technica are fine if you can get them under $100 but they are quite bass heavy and lack clarity in my opinion. If you want to go a step up, the Beyerdynamic DT1350 usually sells for around $200 is well worth the price.

Take a look at the Beyer DT 1350 too. They have really good reviews.
Edit: Sorry, didn't notice you were looking for full sized headphones.

When I picked them up, I hadn't realized they would be celebrity endorsed until a little digging when I got home. Do you have any recommendations? Over-ear is my preferred style, but if the set sounds and holds nice enough, I am considering alternatives.

These are the two I was eyeballing:

Sennheiser HD25-1 II

Beyerdynamic DT-1350-80

Out wandering I always wear sunglasses, and got sick of the over-ear issues. I switched to on ear -- which I generally hate, but all the reviews of the Beyerdynamic T50p/T51p/DT1350, etc, were high on the comfort scale. I tried the T51p and have been very happy. I don't like things in my ear, so never really considered shelling for CIEMs... and I don't like IEMs at all.

One thing the T51p doesn't do that the DT1350 does is have the split headband. This may help distribute headband pressure around for you, even though the T51p doesn't really feel like it's there.

The 1350 was dirt cheap a month ago, but if I were to buy now I'd get the factory refurb Amazon has.

It's another option to consider, I guess. Especially from an unashamed Beyer fanboy. :-P

If you can get ahold of these and try them out you might be surprised at the 3d-ness.
None of my other headphones give me the information these give me while playing games. Amazon has a good return policy...

I'm looking for closed full sized headphones to wear when I'm walking to/from school and when I'm at home relaxing. I found some generally good headphones online and from word of mouth so I'll list those. Either pick one of those or suggest a better one. None of the stores around me carried these.

Reccommended Headphones: Beyer Dynamic DT1350 or DT1350-80, Sennheiser HD25-1 II, Audio Technica ATH-A900x, V Moda Crossfade M80

Budget: Preferably $300 or below but can go up to maybe $400

Source: Mainly for iphone 4s but will also be used for laptop

Isolation: Don't care

Preferred Music: Fingerstyle Guitar, Jazz, Hip Hop, Classical, Acoustic, Indie Pop/Rock, Alt. Rock

Tonal Balance: Not sure. First time getting nicer headphones. I mainly listen to fingerstyle guitar so I would like to be able to hear all of the details, especially the subtle attacks. So slight focus on bass and high maybe?

Past Headphones: Klipsch Image S4 IEM: Was decent but I didn't like how it went in my ear. Philips SHO8801/28 On Ear: Was good for my taste in music except in fingerstyle guitar for the harmonics (high pitched, bell-like/shimmery notes) and classical music in general didn't sound good. Not sure how to describe it but classical music sounded very 'packed' and lost a lot of quality and individuality of instruments if that makes sense.

Thanks for the help.

help guys, pros n cons between Beyerdynamic DT 1350 , Beyerdynamic T50p, and Beyerdynamic DT 770.

trying to decide on headphones, but confused. looking for somethign with quality. somethign an ipod can drive (likely going to go with 32 ohm ones), and something where sound doesnt leak, all of these are closed so hopefully not a problem.

The Beyerdynamic DT1350 are excellent and tick off on most (they are on-ear) your boxes, although they are not overly stylish.

u/xPurplexAnarchyx · 1 pointr/headphones

In that case I'd be inclined to recommend the Vmoda XS which is warm and was actually on sale during black friday at $126?

Alternatively the Beyerdynamic DT1350 is the more balanced of the two and isolates more than the XS.

I'd prefer the DT1350 but the XS has the more consumer-friendly sound.

If you liked the PortaPro and want to upgrade in the build department have a look at the beyerdynamic DT1350

u/Trl_PiEcEs_Sht · 0 pointsr/headphones

try out the beyerdynamic DT 1350's. Own them and listen to mainly electronic D and B. Great great bass and very compact. Listen to them at work and they block out 90% of outside noise without noise cancelling white noise.
