This is the cheapest pen that BIC makes:

It's press fit. This looks like every disposable pen ever. Here's another:

This is what is in the coffee mug at the doctor's office with his name on it and they say "keep it". Here's the "Clic Stic", another classic, also press fit:

Now once you start getting up to this level you get threads:

These are clearly meant to be refilled, and it's even listed as a feature. This is probably what OP was thinking of. These types of pens are extremely common, and yet, I don't think they're more common than the ones above to the point you could call them "most pens".
Up in my office I've got some pens that I bought off amazon like 10 years ago. They are truly trash. They have a threaded back end that barely holds the whole thing together. I looked and looked, but can't find a picture of any of these. Perhaps they will be worth money some day. Anyway, that's what I was thinking of, but apparently they're not very common.
And with that, I've just spend 20 minutes looking at pictures of pens so I guess I should get back to work.
edit - I realized I got totally sidetracked. Yes, you'll notice the press-fit ones usually use a pretty soft plastic for the "press" part, even if they use a harder plastic for the tube. Some of the Bics use the same material (medium hardness) for both the tube and the press part; I imagine these are really efficient because they only have to keep that one material. The ones I mention above used hard plastic for both the end and the tube, which is probably why they had to make it threaded. These are all design decisions that achieve some inscrutable internal marketing requirement, but they are also probably the cheapest way they could be made at whichever factory makes them.
The broadest tip I have right now is a 1.6mm Bic Velocity pen : http://www.amazon.com/BIC-Velocity-1-6mm-Black-VLGB11-Blk/dp/B004F9QBDC - this tool makes a ridiculously broad line. The ink flows smoothly- like butter. It's amazing.
I see that some people say the difference between medium points (~1.0mm) and broad (~1.5mm) is barely noticeable. This is nonsense.
Look at this work (nsfw) https://www.instagram.com/p/BE7BNgYD7Dz/ , the broadest lines are made with the 1.6mm pen.
