It is a complex issue - but the short answer of what I think you are getting at is do I favor laws outlawing abortion? No, I do not. But that could be a slippery answer because if you asked if I favored drunk driving laws I would also say no…… because there are already laws about reckless endangerment and we don’t need a special law for each offense. So, the only reason to make abortion illegal is if it was already an act that there are already laws against, but that also isn’t what I am saying. For me, the question is do I favor the state treat the unborn as entitled to the same protections as the born? No I do not - and that isn’t because I don’t value the unborn, but because I distrust the state. Also because of the nature of this issue, it would be a case of the disease being worse than the cure. Not every injustice in this world can be dealt with. That is just reality. To stop or reduce abortions, this must be done at an educational or cultural level not a law level. I was very squishy on laws even before I was a Libertarian.
