Have you read the six manga books. They are cryptic too but not as cryptic as the tv mini series from 2003. The Mangas consist of 10 books with about 300 sides each.

The ending of the movie is basically made/constructed to enable a 2nd movie. So there could be definately a 2nd movie.

But sadly i think this movie will not be successful enough that they actualy make a 2nd one. Its not bad but its not great either.

The thing which i dont like about this movie is that it shows almost no creatures/robots/threats which you can see/experience in the manga.Where are the silicon creatures, they are entirely left out of the movie, many others creatures they meet in the mangas are also left out, you only see the lizard-mech safeguards and in the end the humanoid trojan horse and thats it.

Im not talking about showing everything which is in the 10x300 sites of manga, but they could have at least put that much effort into it that they show more than 2 hostile creatures in action.
Thats a bit dissapointing.

The world of blame is so fascinating but they show way to little of the actual world and the creatures in this movie. And they spend way too much time of showing the human tribe and their ways of living and social interactions with each other, which is interesting too but should have been shown only ten minutes top or so.
