|about artist|Main Source is an innovative, acclaimed Toronto and New York-based hip hop group comprised of Toronto natives Sir Scratch, K-Cut, and New York native Large Professor. Their first album, Breaking Atoms, featured conscious MC tracks such as "Looking at the Front Door", "A Friendly Game of Baseball" and "Watch Roger Do His Thing". The album also has the first on-record appearance of Nas on "Live at the Barbeque", which also featured Joe Fatal and Akinyele. The group broke up before their second album, tentatively entitled The Science, could be released. ([more on last.fm](http://www.last.fm/music/Main Source))|

Main Source - Breaking Atoms (1991)
Why it's good:
-Widely considered a pioneering hip hop album in production techniques.
-Nas makes his first song debut as a rapper.
-Appears in 100 Greatest Rap Albums, 100 Greatest Rap Singles, and gets a 5 Mic review all by The Source magazine.
Why it's relatively unknown:
The album went out print because the record label went under a couple years later (reissued now). The group also split up because the producer, Large Professor, decided to go solo (and made 3 tracks on Illmatic! such as...).
