I had the same problem with the same video card. The solution is this. Just run the Vive as DisplayPort->DisplayPort using that port on the back of the link box. Then plug your TV into the HDMI via regular HDMI cable.

The HDMI cable did not end up working with my setup and I needed a display port cable. Not sure how many people have this issue, but if you have issues:

This is what you're looking for. Your monitor should have a mini-display port input, and the laptop should have a thunderbolt output that can also be used as mini-display port. If I'm not mistaking, the HDMI standard can only support 4k at 30fps because of bandwidth issues (At least on HDMI 1.4).

It's a digital cable, so quality is not really an issue.

Now to go deeper into it, TB2 and mDP port uses the same interface, so if you really need TB2(as in data transfer), $29 is about on par with what other vendors offer. But if you just need it for 4K out, a mDP cable is plenty good, and cheap-but-good ones are available.

mDP to mDP

mDP to full size DP

I like this brand a lot, they haven't failed me yet, and also cheap.

Hey, thanks for this post. I have the same laptop ( https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834234297 ) and just started using it as my primary VR machine today. Having a ton of issues like the screen blacking out, the Vive controller LED blinking white then green, and having to restart SteamVR to get it to turn back on. Even when it was running games like Portal Stories VR gives this weird "Stutter" issue for a lack of better term. If I turn my head, the screen will kinda tilt and catch back up rapidly to my view and makes me immediately sick. I couldn't play Rick and Morty VR for more than 5 minutes at a time without it crashing or getting nauseous. Strangely, Space Pirate Trainer worked for 20+ minutes a few times whereas Portal Stories, Job Simulator, and Rick and Morty crashes every 5-10 minutes tops.

Did the same troubleshooting stuff as you; played with Direct Mode, uninstall/reinstalling the USB drivers, reinstalling Vive/SteamVR, trying various Nvidia drivers, etc. Nothing worked so far.

I just ordered this cable and will post back when I try it out.

Thanks again.

Not sure if it comes with one, anyway you should use a mDP to mDP cable like this:

Cheers.

Hi, I'm new here and going through all posts trying to evaluate if I should keep the CP16 I just received. I ordered with a local store and the return policy is not that flexible once I open the box. I would be kinda screwed if it doesn't work :(
Thanks for all the infos and videos so far.
I have a Macbook Pro 15" (mid 2014) that should support 4K at 60Hz. According to the info from this tread, I should be able to connect via the Wacom link using a Mini DP to Mini DP (or simply Thunderbolt, but more expensive). Sounds about right?
There are not so many (mini DP to Mini DP) out there, more likely Mini DP to DP. This would be the cheaper version compared to a Thunderbolt cable. or would there be any reason to get a Thunderbolt cable? https://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matters-Mini-DisplayPort-Black/dp/B00HNF0L2C/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1491174050&sr=1-3&keywords=mini+dp+cable
I'm not 100% aware on how to connect the Cintiq Pro 16. If I don't use the Wacom link, for what ever reason, would I need to use each USB-C of the tablet (power, monitor, pen).
And did everyone get it to work after all?
Thanks for any feedback. Cheers

this would work too right? https://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matters-Mini-DisplayPort-Black/dp/B00HNF0L2C/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1524352498&sr=8-4&keywords=Mini+DisplayPort

I know it's a dumb question but i've ordered 3 different items and had to ship them back.

I have a Lenovo X230. Which has a mini DisplayPort. And so far, I don't know the cable to get 4K out of it. But the key is to get a mini DisplayPort to mini Display Port that supports 4K.

My guess is the following cable, but I am yet to try it or know anyone who did:-
