Obligatory RX100 recommendation - it's a great quality pocket camera: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-DSCRX100-Advanced-Digital-Compact/dp/B008CNMZDW/

In reality, your budget doesn't give you that many options for brand new cameras, but for your friend's sake, it would make sense that s/he is involved in making the choice. They might prefer a second hand DSLR or something else - you could even buy a new one for that money, although it's not what I'd pick: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Canon-1200D-Digital-Camera-3-5-5-6/dp/B00IE3UR08/

I'd stay away from lenses without a well known brand name. Generally, you should stick with either lenses from the camera manufacturer (Canon, Nikon, Olympus, Fuji, etc.) or from a well known lens manufacturer (Sigma, Tamron, Samyang, etc.).

Also, you're right, I checked the link I posted, and it seems to have sold out. The E-PL5 is available for £250 with kit lens, but it's definitely not worth it at that price, as it's been much lower (should really only be inbetween 100-150 seeing that is a 2012 model) . So you might want to wait for a sale or something.

Also, what would you be using those large telephoto lens for? They wouldn't have great image quality, and wouldn't be very good for everyday scenarios. Maybe something like this from Olympus?

Or, could I offer you another suggestion? If you want to use a telephoto lens, then maybe consider a DSLR. Canon released an entry levelled DSLR in 2014, the 1200D with kit lens, which can be got for 220 used. You can combine it with a [telephoto lens like the Canon EF-S 55-250mm for £90] (https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-listing/B0056E49MK/ref=sr_1_12_olp?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1465983802&sr=1-12&keywords=ef-s&condition=used). 220 + 90 = 310, so you will be slightly out of budget, but it's cheaper than a mirrorless, or about the same for the RX100 you linked.

The reason why a DSLR is cheaper than a mirrorless in this case, if you want a camera with kit lens + telephoto, is that now you are paying a premium on the mirrorless for it's small form factor - therefore it's more expensive.

Canon EOS 1200D SLR camera currently £265 on amazon. I am currently doing my A-levels and two of my subjects are Photography (for which I need a DSLR camera) and Media Studies (just started the audio-visual creation segment and need a camera that can shoot 1080p video).

What are your opinions on this camera for someone earning minimum wage unable to spend over £300?

I want to get a camera for a friend and know nothing about what to get. I've been looking at some basic models from the Canon EOS 1200D through to the 700D. What would you guys recommend for a beginner? She would never have had an DSLR but would love one. It would be for fairly standard "better" pictures and she loves taking pictures of her makeup for /r/makeupaddiction. The 1200D is on sale at the moment http://www.amazon.co.uk/Canon-1200D-Digital-Camera-3-5-5-6/dp/B00IE3UR08/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1453730714&sr=8-1&keywords=canon+eos Woould the stock lens be ok for these selfies?

What do you think of that? I note some of the expensive ones have a screen that can flip and is touch screen, would that be worth the money in this scenario? Any recommendations would be great.

Hey guys! I'm really interested in getting in to photography as a hobby/side project. I've been reading up on Entry Level DSLR cameras and have seen these three recommended (Along with the Pentax K-500).
[Nikon D3200] (http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00I3M5U5M/ref=asc_df_B00I3M5U5M20062934?smid=A3QZ8CVCV8QA1K&tag=reevoocom-21&linkCode=df0&creative=22242&creativeASIN=B00I3M5U5M)

I was just curious whether going for the cheapest is more than adequate for a beginner or if I should spend a bit more to get a camera that may be better in the long run?
