How large are your prints? If the shortest side is not wider than 12-13", I suggest going with an wide format desktop inkjet printer. I've found really great quality & success from my Canon ip7820 - I use it right now for greeting card illustrations (as in 2000-3000 cards per holiday season) but have had requests to do larger prints that were about 12" wide. The printer goes up to 13" x 19" (A3) and the cost of replacing the inks are super cheap because Amazon has a lot of sellers who sell non OEM replacement cartridges that are literally 1/4 of the cost of Canon brand inks, and I found the quality of the inks to be just as good.

I use the Canon ip8720 and it has worked really well with cardstock since it loads through the top. I've printed hundreds of labels and the ink is still going strong.

I purchased ink and toner from third parties rather than canon. A set of color ink refills only cost $10 and I purchased 3 for the project and I have only opened 2 so far.

As for paper I used Glossy Canon Photo paper. I tried some alternatives but nothing looked as nice as the glossy photo paper to me and I wanted it to look professional. Regular printer paper just looked washed out.
