Hey nice looking watch man! All I know is that it uses a Japanese Miyota quartz movement, a common quartz movement in today's watches. Nixon is mostly associated with skaters. surfers, snowboarders, and other street sports of similar kind. As others have said though, they do not get much love around /r/Watches because they are considered a fashion brand. My first watch was a Nixon Timeteller years ago. It was good, then I lost it. Then I found it again recently.
Watch collecting can be as expensive or as cheap as you want it to be. If you lurk around this sub for a while you'll see lots of different styles in all different price ranges. I love watches, but at the point in my life that I'm at right now (that being a broke college kid), I promised myself to stay in the sub $200 range for the time being. Description: The price tag says beater watch, but the fit and finish do not. It looks way better than a watch at this price point should. I like the quiet of a mechanical, but this might the quietest analog quartz watch I have ever heard. The 120 click unidirectional bezel operates smoothly. The most noteworthy thing I dislike is the date window is small and the date seem too recessed and a bit hard to read. The big surprise was the hacking second hand, which is not a feature I expect on a watch under $150.
MVMT watches are well known for being low quality "fashion" watches. These fashion brands are usually aimed at a younger audience so it makes sense they advertise on podcasts. In my eyes they aren't even worth the ~$100 price point. Sure they'll last a while, but so has my 10 year old Timex I got for 20 bucks, or some dollar store one I got as a kid.
 
If you are actually looking for a quality ~$100 watch, look at Seiko, Citizen or Orient. /r/watches is a very good place to learn, and you might find, like countless other beginners, that the Seiko SNK-809 is for you (my first "good" watch was the SNK-807), which is $50-$70 and a real mechanical automatic ("perpetual" for those of you across the pond) movement. Anything from Seiko 5 range is an incredible starter automatic watch.
 
Do some research if an automatic movement vs quartz movement is right for you (quartz is the basic battery operated watch that the "guts" can be found in watches ranging from $500 Movados to dollar store watches). I REALLY like seeing how things work so I really appreciate the mechanics behind an automatic watch. The downside to them is that they aren't as accurate as quartz (a normal range of inaccuracy is like +-10 seconds a day). But you'll never have to change a battery if that is any consolation. If that puts you off, keep in mind that a $10,000 Rolex has an automatic movement good for +- 5 seconds per day. And as a final PSA, stay away from Invicta. Their automatic movements, cheap pricing, and flashy looks may look enticing, but quality control is horrendous. Just as with any potential purchase, do some research on a watch you think looks promising. Give the model name a search on google or /r/watches and try to find a consensus.
 
For those of you who have been thinking they want a watch but haven't started exploring styles (which is the demographic companies like MVMT pander to with their styles) here is the classic "diver" style watch with the Rolex Submariner. A cheaper automatic dive watch I've been wanting for a LONG time is the Seiko SKX007, which obviously pays homage to the Sub, but is about $5800 cheaper. I'd replace the bracelet with something better than what is there though. Maybe I'll get it after college...
Another well loved cheap diver is from Orient, the Mako, though I prefer its big brother, the Ray, even though that is even closer looking to the Submariner.
The absolute best in budget vs quality in a dive watch is the ~$40 Casio MDV-106. You can get a decent 22 mm steel bracelet for almost the price of the watch and it will look fantastic if that is your preference. I've borrowed my brother's a few times and the thing feels like quality and has been put to the test plenty of times to prove itself as a real dive watch. He goes swimming, hiking, plays sports with it, drops it on concrete, etc. Rugged yet elegant looking. Good size too. Highly recommended first diver or first watch!
If you are looking for a real dress watch with "minimalist design" that doesn't look tacky like MVMT's (sorry, just my opinion), there are plenty in the Seiko 5 line like I said, or the lovely Orient Bambino.
 
Came back to say that if you don't really know if you want a watch, don't think you need to spend $100 on your first. Who knows, you might not like how it feels or looks on you or whatever. For the absolute cheapest of cheap, get yourself a Timex or Casio quartz watch. These brands are well renowned for their reliability. This way you'll end up spending only $15-20 on a watch that will last and work forever (obviously with battery changes along the way).

The Casio MDV106-1AV is a perfect daily use watch and does look like the Rolex Submariner but is a great watch in it's own right. It is quartz rather than automatic but considered by many to be best available budget dive watch. You can purchase the bracelet for it for less than $30.
If you must have an automatic rather than a quartz then the Orient Ray II is a great option that is also similar to the Submariner in terms of design but again a quality time piece in and of itself.
And if you aren't bothered about having the Rolex style looks, the Seiko SNZH55 is designed along the lines of the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms and also an excellent timepiece.

No information included about your desired price range so I'll just throw out a few suggestions. G-Shock is a solid choice - my favorite is the GW6900 as it is 5 buttons (dedicated light button), solar powered, and sets itself every night to the atomic clock. A slimmer option is the GWM-5610 with the same features except for the dedicated light button. These also have non-atomic non-solar versions for about half the price DW6900 and DW5600 which both come in around $45. These are classic models and won't draw unwanted attention.
If you're looking for something analog, while I hate to recommend another Casio, the MDV-106 dive watch is really hard to beat for 40-50 bucks. Water resistant to 200 meters, real functioning diver's timing bezel, applied indices, rubber strap... it's highly regarded at this price point. Good luck!
Maybe its just me but I cringe whenever I see someone with an Invicta watch. Get yourself a more reliable watch. I just picked up a nearly identical watch link for $45 bucks. I highly recommend it

Like even if you were on a budget, stepping up to an SKX diver, Seiko 5, or Orient auto should have been the "default" advice there, as it already fucking has been in the watch community for many years for newcomers on a budget. Even a quartz [Casio MDV-106] (http://www.amazon.com/Casio-MDV106-1A-Stainless-Steel-Watch/dp/B009KYJAJY) would have been a better value and look, if 40 bucks was your absolute ceiling.
The Timex Weekender really is the MFA CDB of wrists now.

Since I don't know exactly how much abuse the watch would take under your work conditions, I would recommend a quartz diver (very water resistant and movement is much less likely to be affected by bumps or drops, etc.). The Seiko SSC021 Solar Diver Chronograph has pretty much everything you're looking for, but is on the bigger side (around 43mm). For $40 there is a Casio dive watch that is actually quite nice looking, 40mm, 200m water resistant, with a quartz movement.
Go to walmart and look for the Casio MDV106 and dump the armitron.

I have the MDV-106 and have dove with it in Bali, watch is a champ, its my weekender/beater. Very sturdy and a total bargain. Can be found at around 50-80 USD.
I got mine for 75 SGD which is about 60 USD at a local watch shop. You could probably get it cheaper online.
EDIT: If you have small wrists the casio should be great, my wrists are a hair under 6", and I think it fits my wrists nicely.
Spend the same, but get a few instead.

The MDV106 from Casio is quite good. A bit above your price range, but it's worth the buy.

This is my Casio MDV106-1A divers watch that I purchased recently. I fell in love with this watch after seeing it on this sub not too long ago so it had to be mine. I picked up a black and grey nato strap because I didn't like he rubber one it came with and it really gives it a sharp look. For the price of this watch in my opinion you get more then what you pay for. This watch keeps excellent time however the lume is terrible. I received so many compliments on this watch daily. So for the $35 I picked it up for it was worth every penny.

The cheapest watch in my collection also happens to be my most favorite, most used, and easily the most complimented. The Casio MDV106.
Here's a whole other bunch of Casio watches under $50. You can't go wrong with this brand.
Under $50 is a really steep restriction, as you are aware. Will you actually be diving with it? If so, I recommend the Casio G-Shock DW5600E-1V, as it is much more water-resistant than a regular watch with a regular crown - even though they are rated the same in this instance.
If you do want a "diver" style watch, there's the Casio MDV106-1A. Keep in mind that this is not a very good watch (it's fair), just one that fits your requirements.
Given the choice, I'd buy the G-Shock.

Your timex with 100m should be good to go, but note that water resistance do drop as the seals age. Usually you would get the watch tested for water resistance every few years, or in case of high end watches that see water often every year.
With that said, casio duro is a solid 200m dive watch at $50 range. And you get to say that you are wearing the same watch Bill Gates wears, so there is that.

If you're a real fan of the Diver look (the classic bond-style Rolex GMT) then look at Steinhart watches - starting at 400 Euro, they're out of your current budget, but typically have the same/similar guts as a $5K rolex, with great build quality too)
I'm currently rocking a Parnis "sterile" GMT (no logo) - A Chinese automatic that looks exactly like a classic 60's Rolex, but i'm under no illusions about it's waterproofness.
My next watch will be a Gnomen OVM 39 - a Steinhart diver watch with smaller dimensions, as my current one is a bit heavy on my slimmer wrist - i find i'm occasionally removing it during long coding sessions on the keyboard.
Stay subscribed to this sub, and check the reviews on these sites so you get an idea.

Hate to crap on your deal, but if I was going to spend $40 on a diver, I would get this instead. I know there's less flash to it, but the watch is reviewed really well and it's also made in the US, if that means anything to anyone.
Both Casio and Fossil are pretty well respected for this price range. They aren't as traditional, though, but still solid quality.
Casio has a nice diver as /u/wolfquinn mentioned. I own this, too and love it. Casio focuses mainly on digital watches.
Fossils tend to be more trendy or large. I own one, but don't wear it much because of its size. It is good quality though.
If you are looking for a similar watch to this Sturhling, I would look into certain models of Timex Elevated Classics or certain models Timex Expedition.
I have a touch over 8" wrist and the 38mm Timex Weekender I received as a gift is just too small for me – my wife wears it.
Personally I wouldn't go smaller than 40mm – which is the size of my dress watch. Timex makes a ton of styles though, easy to grab something 40-42mm or even 44mm if you feel like it. You can wear those sizes without looking dumb.
An alternative suggestion to look at the Casio MDV106 if you have any interest in a dive watch. I got mine for $33 on Amazon Prime to wear for a while to see if I like wearing a diver before I spend any serious money. Turns out, I do, and will buy a higher-end diver sometime in the future. I'll still keep this as a good grab & go beater even as my collection grows over the years.

How inexpensive do you want to go? SKX, Orient Mako etc are all fairly inexpensive. But if you want super cheap, it's probably hard to beat a Casio Duro.

This is a well-known adult dive watch that far more affordable than it looks and can take a beating.
Depending on what you are looking for, here are a couple of recommendations to keep your eyes peeled for while shopping. You might be able to find them at various stores around town, but I’ve sourced mine from Amazon with no issues:

This guy looks sharp, has a metal band, and hosts quite a few features such as: light, alarm, timer, stopwatch, and date display. Kind of a “dad watch” but very clean and practical for the price.

This is a cool diver watch that is a huge bang for your buck. It looks quite a bit more expensive than it actually is. Has a one-way rotating bezel (dive function) that is very secure, a locking crown, and you can swap the band to tailor the look to what you are wearing. It is actually water resistant and I have seen people use it while diving. I put a striped nylon strap on mine to get that James Bond Rolex Submariner vibe.
Seiko Men's SNK809 Seiko 5 Automatic Stainless Steel Watch with Black Canvas Strap
This is probably my personal favorite. You can get it in a couple of different color schemes and I got mine (black) for around $60. This is an automatic watch so there are no batteries. It winds as you move, which is great if you wear it everyday, but not so much if you swap it out for a couple of days. It’s pretty small and lightweight and the lume (glow in the dark, Seiko is usually regarded at being very good for it) on the face is insane. While backpacking I’ve woken up in the middle night with the face still glowing as if I had just flashed it with light. You can swap the band on this as well, and I’ve found the NATO straps to be a little nicer than the standard canvas strap. It’s isn’t as dressy, but definitely a great watch. The movement is also a pretty unique Japanese movement that scrolls like most higher end watches instead of “tick tick tick” which can be loud and annoying at times.
There is also the Timex Weekender option. They are pretty cheap and you can find them everywhere. They are available in a ton of color options so for $100 you could probably grab a few different styles. They make a bunch of designs of them as well, but they are definitely just cheap everyday watches and can be quite loud.
Most really rugged watches will be durable, like a Casio G-Shock. The Casio DW-5600 is excellent for that. I'll make a list of some other options!

As others said, a quartz movement is probably better if you're working physically outdoors. I would look into this watch if you want somethign maybe a littel more sturdy for cheap. Maybe buy this for work and a seiko automatic for after hours?
Timex has some watches, specifically the Expedition model, that fit in that price range, are 40mm dials, and have some darker models, but doesn't have lume, instead you push the crown down and it lights up. The bands are nylon or leather. They go for around $40 USD. The Weekender might work too. They're very good watches, but be warned that Timex watches tend to tick loudly.
Then there's the Casio dive watches (the MDV106 gets recommended a lot, but mostly because of it's appearance, there are other models that you might prefer over it, just search for "casio dive"), it has lume (e: the lume on these watches is apparently not that great, thanks /u/mojojojoborras) and is about $10-35 USD. It has a plastic band. It's very big though (44mm, I'm told the size on amazon is wrong), and some don't have arabic numerals.
Then there's the Seiko 5 SNZG17K1 if you want an automatic watch, it is 42 mm black watch face and with lume and a dark grey metal band. Amazon has it for $169 USD. Since it's automatic you will likely need to set the time each morning (unless you buy a watch winder).
I can vouch for Timex and Casio being solid brands, and have an Expedition myself that works great (with a new strap at least), and Seiko is a brand that a lot of people here recommend very often.

Seiko 5 is a nice watch for the price but I don't think they are very waterproof. They are also a lot smaller than what you want. Seiko makes affordable watches but I don't think even they sell a diver under $100.
I am new to the watch & reddit game. Read posts on reddit and went out and got the Casio EF503D-1AV for $39.99 (Super deal somehow, thanks camelcamelcamel) + Croc strap $12.71 & the MDV106-1AV for $40.99 with the NATO strap for $5.95. I bought this Casio watch from Amazon, and the black and grey NATO strap, and just swapped out the rubber strap for the NATO one myself.
Take a look at the Casio MDV-106. Its going for less than $40 right now, so you can use the rest of your budget to get a new strap.

hate to sidetrack your thread, but have you considered these? a daily driver for a carpenter, first thing that comes to mind is a g-shock. indestructible, holds perfect time, and features you could use. I listed a few others for you. Personally. I would get one of these 3, and wear a 007 after work/weekends. IMO, wear and tear is only cool on vintage watches. I agree, 007 is a super sturdy watch, but i'd be a little funny shaking it that much during hard work. Cheers! :D

This seems to suit your needs and should be good for water sports, you can change out the rubber for a NATO and since they're easily interchangeable you can swap them quickly for different looks.
Don't hate on Casio to much. They sell one of the best watches per dollar: the Casio MDV
I got a 40.00 watch watch on Amazon and it's worked great. I've been on over 200 dives with it with no issues.
But if it's a dive computer your needing, that's different.
Personally, I don't think beginners should train with a computer. You need to know how to use tables and plan a dive without one. If you're only being taught to use a computer I would worry about what other essential aspects of diving aren't being taught in the class.
I was a dive master and scientific diver before I got a computer. A watch and wet notes/slate should be enough to get you started.
You should have a console with a depth gauge. There will be a red needle that moves with your depth gauge that stays at the maximum depth reached. Make sure to log your time in, time out, and maximum depth each dive. That's all you need to run your tables.
A well regarded entry level diver, the Casio MDV106 might suit your needs. At this price point I would avoid an all black case, as the coatings used are on the cheap, and tend to wear quickly.

You should check out the casio duro it's a very good diver and it's $55 new on amazon right now, and it comes with a screw down crown and 200M water resistance.

The Casio MDV106-1A dive watch and Infantry NATO strap are linked to their Amazon pages. The Casio was $38, and the strap was $8, both with free shipping, for a grand total of $46.
If I were to do it again I might try a 22mm strap instead of the 20mm one. The fit is just a bit loose and the spring bars could also be a bit stronger I think. The Lume isn't that great, but the actual dial has a really nice clean look, and the red second hand stands out pretty well while reading it. The bezel also rotates which I didn't expect to see in such an inexpensive watch.
All in all, though, this thing looks surprisingly good for the price, and I was getting compliments on it even with the stock rubber strap.

Ok, Casio is a good brand though. I would say the Casio MDV106 could fit the bill. It is rugged, water proof, and no one will mistake it for a trendy "trying too hard" g-shock.

Over the years, I've had (& killed) a half dozen Casio's. Some were digital, some were analog ... none were G-Shocks.
If I were to buy a cheap Casio dive watch today, I'd probably check out this one or this one and of these two, I'd probably choose the latter, as it has a 200m rating instead of 100m and its been my impression that Casio's depth ratings have gotten less robust over the years.

You’re going to be hard-pressed to find sapphire for that little, but you could get like 5 CASIO MDV watches and replace if scratched.
The ISO designation for a dive watch is the ISO 6425 standard. You can tell when a dive watch meets this standard because it will say "Diver's 200m WR" or something to that effect on it. However just because it doesn't say Diver's on the dial doesn't mean it's not a dive watch.

An unfortunate reality of this price-point is that not many of the available options will straddle that line between inspiration and homage like the SNZF17 does. They'll either be completely different designs, or cut-and-dry Submariner homages. The only other recommendation I can give is the Casio MDV106 Duro. It is slightly larger than you're preferred size and there's no bracelet option.

Sure, maybe I'm wrong to expect a non-glue-on-magnifier for the price, but for a product that is 20-30% more expensive than direct competition (and with a "list price" of "$195" even though we know that's bullshit too), it should not leak or condense.
For Invicta to then tell me there's a $28 "handling fee" plus my own shipping to process a warranty repair when it does is basically telling me to go fuck myself.
...anyway, not trying to argue with you. I'm just standing behind my expectations and my advice to steer clear of Invicta. Guess I missed the memo on their QC problems so the least I can do is share my experience and save someone else from a similar bad decision.
Casio makes a very clean, nice looking quartz diver.
If you're happy to have the backup equipment, calculate every dive using tables and remember to reset your bezel every time, then go for it - you would be a far more patient and dedicated man than I, that's for sure. But you might find a simple backup computer costs less than a decent dive watch anyway. But I think you have your heart set on getting a watch, in which case I would wholeheartedly recommend the Rolex Submariner 16610 which I have taken diving with me without issue (not as a backup though, just for kicks), but I understand the Casio Duro is a great and much cheaper option.

Ehh, for $60 you don't have much to lose with sturhling (look up mushroom brand on here or watchuseek to get a better understanding of why they are so bad, basically they are constantly "on sale" for astounding deals, and pretend to be swiss or German while being made in China)
Honestly I think the only two new watches worth buying (you can get some interesting stuff at flea markets if you are lucky) would be the Casio mdv106 or the venerable Seiko snk809. I have the mdv106 and have beaten it to hell and back and it still looks and runs great. I don't have an snk809 but I have a couple Seiko's and they are all fantastic watches, probably the best you'll find for the price, do a quick search on /r/watches for "snk809" and you'll find plenty of happy owners, just be warned that its a small watch.
Honestly though, if you love the look of the sturhlings then buy it, for $60 it really isn't that bad of a deal
I rather like wearing a watch, and decided to add a dive watch when I started diving. The first thing to decide is movement - battery, solar, or mechanical. For diving... I honestly think Solar is a great choice. No battery to replace, but also doesn't need service like mechanical. Citizen uses the "Eco-Drive" name for their solar, while Seiko just calls them "Seiko Solar". Seiko Kinetic is a similar thing - quartz watch with a movement based charging system - but they have a reputation for crapping out. The solar ones are basically bulletproof.
As you may know, if you want to dive a watch, simply getting something that says '200m water resist' isn't really enough. Watches that meet ISO6425 standards (which are specs for dive watches) will show 'Diver's 200m'. The proofing and testing is different, and the '200m/20atm' watches aren't necessarily dive ready. Wikipedia has a reasonable explanation of the testing differences. At the very least, you need a screw-down crown. Anything that says "Diver's 200m" on it will have that and be sufficiently reliable for diving work. Anything that says '300m' should be sufficient for at least basic diving... anything lower you're just going to have to ask the watch community about that particular watch specifically.
So - all that aside. Recommendations based on the digging I did while I was shopping. I ended up with an Orange Seiko Solar Diver. The Citizen Promaster divers are nice as well.
The 'Entry Level' seems to be this Casio. It's battery powered, but should last a long long time. It doesn't say Divers 200, but they have a reputation for lasting.
Cheap end of mechanical, the Vostok Amphibia. It's a completely different concept than the more traditional dive watch - uses soft seals and pressure to seal itself, rather than a hardened case. 'Automatic' or 'Self-Winding' mechanical, but it has a bi-directional bezel, meaning you can't really use the bezel for timing like you can on a true 'Dive Watch'. You can get em with a little scuba man on them, though. There's a bunch of different style Vostoks, but they're all functionally the same. Good watches.
Moving up in price a bit, Seiko makes some very nice mechanical dive watches. There's the SKX007, the SKX009, the 'Monster' watches (Available in Black, White and Orange), and some of my favorite looks - the Blue Lagoon and Turtle.
If you want to throw stupid money at the problem, my buddy has one of these Marathon watches which he loves dearly. They're one of the few divers you can get with actual radioactive tubes, so you don't have to charge the lume hands up in the sun.

I'd say buy 2 or 3 for $50 to $100 each. I bought 3 watches (for less than $100 total) before I finally figured out what I like wearing. My first watch was a chronograph on a steel bracelet. I learned very quickly what I do and don't like in chronographs (this one had many features I disliked), and I figured out that, like you, I dislike steel bracelets. I still have that one, but I don't wear it. After that I figured out that I like divers, so I ordered one of those. It turned out I didn't know enough about watches and bought something that didn't fit at all. I figured out where I went wrong, and bought a third watch. It is the one that /u/fragilestories recommended, the Casio mdv106. I wear this watch daily. I think it was nice to have a few and wear each for a while, and doing that let me get the perfect watch. Now that I know what I like, I know that when I spend $200 to $300 on my next watch it will be great. I am planning to upgrade to the Seiko SKX007, which will be my first mechanical watch. I guarantee that I will wear it every day once I have it.
Think about what you want to use your watch for. Will you look at it in class when writing the date on your papers? Get a date window. Want to time things? You need a chronograph. Figure out what features you will use and go from their. Or go for what you think looks the coolest, even if it has different features than you would use.
Also, look through this sub and think about what looks you like. Do you like numbers? Roman numerals? Symbols? What colors do you like? What straps do you like (these are pretty easy to change, but you will have to add straps into your budget if you want something other than what the watch comes with).
Here are 3 watches that will give you a good variety. These 3 will let you rotate watches, change your style, and figure out what features you like and don't like. The three together fit your price point (or are very close).

Maybe you'll find you don't like any complications on your watch (I personally do not like date windows. I think watches look better without them. Casio MDV106-1A (See here for pics). $40, and you can swap the strap out for one of your choosing. I bought one off Ebay a while back for $30, and I like it. It's a bigger, chunky watch, but it's a different style to consider.
Seiko 5, ~$50 off Amazon. Mechanical movement, smallish face at 37mm, and a really great looking watch. People complain that it loses time daily, but I haven't had any problems with that. This is probably my most worn watch: I can dress it up for work or wear it casually without skipping a beat.

How large are his wrists? Casio makes a quartz dive watch that's kind of sporty but it's 44mm in diameter so it might look big if he has smaller wrists. Another option would be the Timex Expedition Scout. The scout comes in a ton of different colors so if you look around on Amazon I'm sure you could find something that works. I ended up wanting (still wanting) the Excalibur, which I couldn't find new anywhere in the US, so I ended up spending $35 on the Casio Men's MDV106-1AV during an Amazon Black Friday sales blip (it's back up to $44). At that price it's not worth replacing the seals when they need replacing in 3 years. A solid, disposable watch.
Stem is a little rough, look is basic but classic, I like the weight, it actually isn't too big as I'd initially feared, and in the season's cold weather the band is perfectly comfortable. (But it will probably be too hot come summer.)

I'm looking for a "beater" watch, and I found this amazing Casio MDV106 "Duro". The only thing I don't like about it is the rubber strap, so decided to go with a NATO or a perlon. I've never had any of these types of strap before.
Although the perlon looks nicer than the NATO (imo), I feel like it's also less durable. Which one should I choose?
I'm planning to order the watch from Amazon, so getting the strap from there too would be very comfortable. What are the most reputable perlon / NATO brands on Amazon in the ~15$ price range?

I replaced my garbage Timex with Casio's Rolex Submariner clone and I'm very happy with it. The band is pretty terrible but I replaced it with a Zulu strap and it looks fantastic.

No it's not a particularly great brand and the majority of the watches you see marked down on amazon are permanently marked down - the original price is super inflated to try and trick you into thinking you're getting a good deal.

I'm looking to buy a watch for myself, but I've never worn one before and I know nothing about them. I want something simplistic for everyday use that will be low-maintenance and last at least a few years. I am an early 20s male and my wrist is about 7''. I want a gray/black/silver analogue watch with a date display and a non-metal band. Budget is under $100.
Through my searching, the best I've found so far is this Citizen. This Casio is okay, but has a bit too much going on for me. I like the look of this black Citizen, but it seems like it would be unreadable. Watches that I like the look of but are too expensive are almost anything by Tayroc and this Tissot PR100.
Any advice or recommendations would be appreciated.
Edit: Thanks to the help of /u/timmythetoole and /u/WordOfMadness, I've decided on the Seiko SNK793. While browsing through watches, the idea of a blue dial has grown on me (it would match my eyes), so I chose this over the SNK795. I think I'll use it with the metal band for a while to see if I can get used to it, and swap it out for a leather band if I have to. Thanks guys!

I cant decide between your watch, the black version, or the casio diver. I am basically just looking for an affordable watch I would wear everyday. I want to be able to not worry about breaking it (considering I am a high school student), and would probably put on a leather, or multicolored nato band.

I mean, it's not a bad watch at all. If you're really into it, go ahead and get it. That being said, I would personally do a bit more looking around. Timex has great budget watches, specific their weekender collection. The Seiko 5 is very often recommend in your price range as well as the Casio MDV106-1AV.
Remember though, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. If you are super into the Skagen, go for it.
There's no such thing as a "Waterproof" watch, however there are water resistant models from every major company. My recommendation, even if it doesn't match your style, (since it will be a beater) is to go with the Casio MDV106 or the Casio MDV106D-1A2V.
In my opinion (and I know it's a shared opinion around here) This watch gives you the most water resistance for the money. It has a screw-down case back but more importantly, a screw-down crown. It's rated to 660 feet.
I use the bezel on it all the time, and it is one of my favorite watches in my watch box.
Put a leather nato on it and it would resemble that weekender you linked to.

What's your budget? If under $50, I'd recommend this Casio. If more, this Marathon would hold up well, or maybe a Sinn U1 for maximum performance. If you could give us a wrist size and budget that would help.

The casio I had in mind is actually in your original budge, i thought it was a little more expensive. Anyways, I'd probably choose between this seiko5, this casio, some flavor of timex weekender. Something like that. But don't think there's anything wrong with the Vostok either, if that's what you like.
I am going to get married soon and would like to get watches for my groomsmen, and the guy usher. I am paying for their Tux rentals so my budget is around $50 or $60 each. Out of the 8 of them, only two wear suits/ formal wear with any frequency so I'm trying to find a watch that will work for the wedding, but also be versatile down the line for more casual wear.

Not sure its what you're looking for, but this Casio dive watch is a kick-ass watch, and a great deal at $40. You can find it in stores for about twice that. Last time I checked, it had pretty good reviews too.

Rodina and Weekender are good but the Weekender is loud as fuck.
I'll suggest the Casio MDV106, hard to beat for a $40 watch and you can throw on a leather or Nato strap as you like.
Also if you want to stick with the Timex, go for the "Weekkender Chrono it's still a little noisy but much much better than the basic Weekender and you can get it in multiple colorways.

I've had my eye on this one for a while. My friend has this Casio diver and a zulu slip-thru strap, and the zulu is a pretty tight fit between the spring bar and the case. Can you comment on how it is on this watch? I think I would prefer the extra thickness and beefy hardware compared to a regular NATO like this but I still want the strap to be able to slip through relatively easily and not put too much stress on the spring bars
If you like the dive watch look, at that price point your best bet is probably the Casio Duro
If you're into dive watches, I've been extremely surprised and impressed with my Casio beater. I took off the rubber strap and added a black and gray NATO. Even with the addition of the strap, it still comes in well under your price range.
If you don't like/don't want a diver, check into Timex Weekenders. ;)

$180 can definitely get you something decent. Where would you wear it? Are we talking an office setting, something casual with t-shirt and jeans? Something that can get beaten up outdoors or you can rock at the gym?
Lots of ideas out there, but it's like saying "What kind of shoes should I buy for $180?" -- really depends on what you're wearing them for!
A few popular ones:
The Casio "Duro". Known for it's classic design, can be worn on all kind of straps, and Casio is a well-respected manufacturer of quality affordable watches. It's also water resistant to 200m, which means you can take it literally anywhere and it'll operate like a champ.
If you want an upgraded version of the Casio, this Seiko is well-loved in the watch community and, if you spend a few dollars to get it serviced every 5 years or so at a local watch shop, will easily last you the rest of your life. Classic divers watch with a handsome metal band, and will pair well with any outfit short of a black-tie event. It doesn't take a battery either, because it's automatic!
Finally, if you don't care about water resistance and want something that will pair with any kind of "everyday" activities, consider the Braun. It's a great design because it's not flashy or too fancy, but will quietly just WORK with whatever you're wearing: suit, t-shirt, date night, bar night, whatever. Comes in black too.

I want to put it on NATO straps, but all the straps I have are 20mm. The band width listed on amazon is 12mm. How are you guys putting this on Natos if the width is only 12mm? I have never seen anything below 16mm listed on the Nato strap retail sites.

That is one of Casio's dive watches. Model is MDV-106. I think it's one of the best dive watches for the money, it's actually my daily beater.
However, it is quartz and glass is mineral.

Yeah, it's definitely a huge bargain. I had had my eye on this Casio for this job at first, but then I found the Pulsar. I knew about them being a Seiko sub-brand, so I thought it may have a slightly better build quality, which I'd happily pay $10 more for. Thanks for your thoughts!

Love the look, as got a cheap straight end-piece steel bracelet for it that I think looks pretty nice. Appreciate the no-frills features, and the fact that if it gets banged up, the low cost paid ($62 CAD) makes it easy to replace. Don't like the fact that it's almost not worth changing the battery on it due to the overall price paid, and I feel odd buying NATO straps and silicone straps for such a low-cost watch.

Got it for a nice sale on Amazon ($187 CAD), and have another watch with 20 mm lugs so I can re-use existing straps. Love Eco-Drive and a 5- year warranty. Only dislikes are how cramped the watch face looks, and I'm going to have to get an aftermarket steel band for it as well.

I present to you my Wenger Seaforce, model number 01.0641.115. Got it on Amazon for less than $100. Has some decent features such as sapphire crystal (albeit "synthetic"), 200m WR, a screw-down crown, and a rotating bezel. Quartz movement. Equipped with a BluShark Orca navy strap. Pairs well with the gunmetal finish IMO!
I just needed a simple, clean-looking watch that I don't have to worry about scratching or dinging. I do have some G-Shocks, but there really is no substitute for an analog watch. I fell in love with this watch due to its gunmetal finish and grey dial.
I was originally going to go with the Casio MDV106 but it was slightly bigger and I just wanted something a little more unique.

Casio MDV106 is a fantastic watch for the price! (And under your budget) I wear it everyday.
Looks similar to (but is probably not) a Casio MDV-106.
Look at Seiko 5's. There's infinite choice and they are all reliable, waterproof and can go without service for 5-10 years easily.
If you swim that often though, I would consider looking into 'Divers'. (Usually more waterproof).
Seiko has some great divers as well.
If you want an automatic watch (mechanical winding through kinetic energy), there's the Seiko SKX007
If you want a quartz watch (battery-powered), there's the very cheap but really good Casio MDV106-1AV
I have 5.5" wrists and I can wear select 42mm watches without it looking oversized, so you can probably go up to a 43mm with a small enough lug width.
Invicta Pro Diver. You get a reliable automatic movement, diving bezel, screw down crown. Invicta does have that stigma in the watch
