Those are Cheerson CX-10 quadcopters. The only thing home-made about them is the paintjob.

This is literally just a chick in skimpy clothing with some cheap off-the-shelf quadcopters and a plastic brick to hold them in. This post is the fucking epitome of "upvoted because girl".

>If you like the tech, well it's nowhere close to bees.

Especially this technology - I own the same shitty $15 rc drone that they just glued some fur on, and its blowing my mind that someone got this comical "proof of concept" published. I'm wondering if I can mail my iphone to that journal and get my AI named Siri published.

And it seems redundant to point out, but even if they figured out the technology this would never even come close to being cost effective.

u/sylos · 26 pointsr/UNBGBBIIVCHIDCTIICBG

I don't think those are home made nano-drones, unless you're talking about the coloring job on them.

edit Boy, I look like an asshole. Sorry!

This appears to be a repackaged Cheerson CX-10, which are available a little cheaper. Great starter quad though! I have a couple of these for flying around the office.

u/tehyosh · 8 pointsr/gadgets

Looks a lot like Cheerson CX-10, even the remote seems the same. Flies really well for a 10-15$ toy. Stock battery lasts for about 10-15 minutes depending on usage.

Here you go...

Get a drone. This one is super tiny.

u/mike413 · 3 pointsr/interestingasfuck

Seriously, please spend your money on one of these

Smaller and actually fun and easy to fly. 6-axis gyro helps!!

u/isaacwdavis · 3 pointsr/Quadcopter

I don't know about custom/hobby ones that small, but I have one from Amazon and it flies pretty stable: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KXZC762/

Pick up a drone from a hobby store and make all your flight mistakes with that. Once you're zipping around a room comfortably, you'll have the basic skills to not do something stupid with the epic hardware.

This is what I trained on:

https://www.amazon.com/Cheerson-CX-10-Mini-Quadcopter-Drone/dp/B00KXZC762/ref=sr_1_12?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1497250117&sr=1-12&keywords=mini+drone

I went from this to building my own racing quad and piloting a phantom for video capture at a startup.

Quadcopters are a good example, you can buy one of those mini quads for a few dollars which use a PID controller to keep them stable. The amount of cool technology they pack into those things for such a low price is insane, you can even hack into the firmware of some of them and play around with the PID settings.

u/OwlG5 · 2 pointsr/CasualConversation

I haven't personally gotten one, but I've heard good things about some micro quadcopters on amazon. To my understanding, they work pretty well for their size for the most part, but the blades can break off if you're not careful with it.

u/xandar · 2 pointsr/Futurology

"Drone" usually suggests autonomous flight. What you're probably looking for is a remote control quadrotor. I'd suggest starting off with the CX-10. That one is small enough to fly indoors (where you don't need to worry about wind), and it's pretty harmless. Also, you will crash starting out. Better to do that with a cheap vehicle. Even if you have the money and interest to get something fancier, I'd start there to learn the ropes.

u/ionlyuseredditatwork · 2 pointsr/Multicopter

If you're looking for a super-tiny quad that's still a blast to fly indoors, check out the Cheerson CX-10. It's ridiculously cheap, takes a beating, and you can typically get 5-7 min per flight. Only takes around 20 min to charge, too.

u/OnNom · 2 pointsr/Futurology

There is nothing advanced about quadcopters or ultralights. Here is a good intro quadcopter for $56. Here is a very small one for $17.

(Syma x5c)[https://www.amazon.com/Syma-2-4G-Camera-Quadcopter-2-0MP/dp/B00MNG37C2/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1481835095&sr=1-1&keywords=syma+x5c] It's just under $50 and you can get extra batteries for about $5 a piece. I've had mine for a while and crashed it a lot and it's worked just fine.
Perfect for a beginner.

Also the (Cheerson cx10)[https://www.amazon.com/Cheerson-CX-10-Mini-Quadcopter-Drone/dp/B00KXZC762] is a mini drone that's pretty fun for under $20.

u/aerogonaut · 2 pointsr/radiocontrol

Well, most fun is going to be a subjective thing that you'll get all kinds of answers to. They're all easy, you get started by buying the $20 toy version and learning the concepts then moving up as your interest progresses.

I'll just leave this right here.

If you're looking for a super budget quad, the Cheerson Cx-10 is super fun!

u/Coelacanth7 · 2 pointsr/Multicopter

The little orange one is a Cheerson cx-10 and this kit from banggood. Really fun little things.

u/lebanes666 · 1 pointr/gadgets

Looks a lot like Cheerson CX-10, even the remote seems the same. Flies really well for a 10-15$ toy. Stock battery lasts for about 10-15 minutes depending on usage.

u/caphits · 1 pointr/Multicopter

Cheerson cx-10 is a ton of fun. It is super cheap (see bangood or Amazon).

I have crashed this thing SO much, and have only had a few bent props, which are easy to bend back. It has 3 rates (slow, medium, and fast) and can do sweet flips. It charges very fast, and lasts for long enough to have some good fun.

u/digital_end · 1 pointr/gadgets

If a $5 licence discourages you, this really isn't a hobby you should get involved in. Kind of like saying you lose your interest in owning a car because buying a tag is too much... the hobby itself is way more expensive than $5 would matter on.

Still though, the weight minimum is .55 pounds (8.8 ounces), and starter quads are less than half that. Or this one which is 6.4 ounces.

Pretty sure that includes the weight of the controller too. Just the quad is probably far less.

My mom would LOVE to get a rose gold iPhone. Honestly it would probably make my dad jealous haha.

My go-to gift for my dad is a nice scotch. My boss recommended LaPhroaig so that's what I got this year.

A couple of years ago I got my boyfriend a tiny remote-controlled quadcopter from Amazon, it's a lot of fun and might be a good gift for your bf or brother. They have bigger, more expensive ones too but even the little cheap ones are really cool.

Other gift ideas: My coworker was saying today about how she's shopping for her boyfriend's brothers and literally all they want are smartwool socks...

u/NickTea · 1 pointr/ABDL

They're super fun. I have a super tiny quadcopter that I think is what inspired my family to buy it for me and I love it. http://www.amazon.com/Cheerson-2-4GHz-6-Axis-Quadcopter-Bright/dp/B00KXZC762/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1451084970&sr=8-1&keywords=cheerson+cx10

It's little and cheap and super entertaining just to fly around the room or whatever. If you keep an eye on meh.com, they'll sell them at even deeper discounts fairly often

u/gordito · 1 pointr/drones

The mini Cheersons are awesome. My 7 year old has one and it's easier to control indoors than the hubsan. They even have a camera and they love filming.

How about flying a small drone like this outdoors? Flying it in the dark really helps clear my mind and reach mental stillness.

I fly this drone to help bring stillness to my mind:

I was recently shopping for a birthday gift for myself and found this one which definitely looks like a winner. Grab two for when you break the first one, couple of extra batteries and rotors and you have fun fun fun for within budget.

u/thunder_smash · 1 pointr/gadgets

so they bought this thing and glued horse hair to it?

u/Free_ · 1 pointr/CasualConversation

You mentioned drones...do you have a drone? Those can be really fun and can really be had for whatever price you want. I had this exact mini drone for a while:

https://www.amazon.com/Cheerson-CX-10-Mini-Quadcopter-Drone/dp/B00KXZC762/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1500911159&sr=8-2-spons&keywords=cx-10+drone&psc=1

It's ridiculously tiny, (like only a few inches), but that thing is so fun (and challenging) to fly! My full size drone is actually way way easier to fly than that one. Just something to consider!

u/Crimsonera · 1 pointr/Multicopter

They would get one of these to practice on first. Plus, some of these students are actually working toward their pilots license.
