I recently dabbled from plastic to wood having worked as a shipwright aboard a tall ship for a bit.
I've been a big fan of Patrick O'Brien and wanted to build the HMS Surprise but it's a massive undertaking so decided to have a go at a more of a starter kit, i bought Constructo's Albatross which is an entry level kit in my eyes.
Here is how far i've gotten before benching it, i missed playing with plastic and rigging is a royal pita. This has about six months of evening work in it so far. Here is a full wip if you're interested in what's involved.
I would recommend a smaller kit to dabble in first, these are time consuming kits. A great help is modelshipworld.com.
There are a couple of us here who dabble in wooden boat builds, you're welcome to ask questions if you have any.
Cool, thanks for the response!
Edit: Over $200 CAD Holy Crap! Still, seriously considering getting this, thanks for posting!
