I've been working on chord melody almost exclusively for the last couple of years. Sort of getting back into this as well.
Years back, I had two excellent books by a fellow... Mike Elliot... Contemporary chord Solos... I believe there are actually three in the series.

Damn..... I may have to put mine up for sale..... The library might be a good source... Or you could check bit-torrent sites.
There are a couple of Joe Pass instructionals up on YouTube.... I found his best advice one of these...."Figure out the melody and find chords that sound nice."
I try to keep things reasonably simple..... I find that rather often, jazz guys tend to get all wound up in theory.
