I agree with this... it's only awkward if you think it's awkward. Sometimes I find stuff like this anxiety provoking, but there are times when I can just be in the moment and concentrate on what I'm doing and then it's fine.
But, also a tip... I find for me personally as an introvert it's much easier to talk about a specific topic rather than just random small talk. I'll almost have nothing to say in those situations, but when there's a specific topic of conversation I may have much more to say. Not sure if that makes sense. I think there's a self-help book about it... Conversationally Speaking. Here's a link:
