I think the 2700X is overall not a good buy for gaming. For gaming consider the 3600 instead. I'd also look at the 3700X. If the 3800X is only a few dollars more than it's worth it, but not more than maybe $20 or $30 at the outside. Realistically, you'll never notice the difference in performance between the 3700X and the 3800X. Since it looks like you're going for a budget build based on your other selections, I think the 3600 is the best option for you.

I'd also consider the Corsair MP510 over the Samsung 970 Evo Plus. You basically get twice the capacity for nearly the same price, and once again you won't notice the difference in performance.

You also need to switch that G.Skill Ripjaws out for Crucial Ballistix Sport LT, either 3000 CL15 or 3200 CL16. Ballistix Sport LT is Micron E, and you should be able to pretty easily overclock it to 3600 MHz on Ryzen 3000 series. I'm guessing the Ripjaws is Hynix memory, which is not a good buy for Ryzen (especially Ryzen 2000 series).

Your other option would be to buy 16 GB of Team Dark Pro 3200 CL14 that is currently on sale for $100 at Newegg. The Team Dark Pro is Samsung b-die which is faster, but also somewhat more expensive. It should do at least 3600 CL16-16-16-16-32-48 and probably tighter than that. (3200 CL14 and 3600 CL16 are essentially identical timings.)

You can put any m.2 in there. It doesn't need to be NVME.

This is my first build with no sata drives. I'm using 2 of the 3 m.2 connectors. One for OS, one for porn documents just like you. This is my documents drive. It's awesome.

Oh wow good call.

The Sponsored listing I looked at for 480gb is apparently grossly overpriced

CORSAIR FORCE Series MP500 480GB NVMe PCIe Gen3 x4 M.2 SSD Solid State Storage, Up to 3,000MB/s https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N7GDWE2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_YhXNDb4CRW707

Especially considering I clicked "View Newer Model"

And for 5 bucks less you get 960gb, and supposedly 3480mb/s instead of 3000.

That being said, I'd still choose the Sabrent Rocket over the MP510 since it's almost identical in specifications for $15 less. (At 1tb)

Mobo: What made you pick the Gaming 7 instead of the cheaper Gaming 5?

SSD: the Corsair MP510 is discounted right now on Amazon: 960GB NVMe for 83€, but it's a pre-order.

Followup question : would my motherboard even support the NVMe without gimping my graphics card?

I see a MP510 at only 20€ more, that is way closer, does it change the result?

u/PhattyR6 · 1 pointr/sffpc

The Samsung is usually the go to recommendation because it uses MLC NAND memory and it is/was one of the fastest PCIE3.0 NVMe drives. It is a really good drive, but the main benefits just won't be noticed in a casual gaming PC.

Currently, you can get the Corsair MP510 for £110, which is another good option.

Also to add on to the guy below, I actually wouldn't recommend getting the better Ryzen 3600 CPU. Purely because it'll cost more and take away the potential for a better GPU.

In your price range, you'll notice the performance difference in a better GPU, but you won't notice the performance difference between a 9400F and Ryzen 3600 when paired with a 1050Ti/RX570.

Looks pretty good, consider this M.2 drive https://www.amazon.com/CORSAIR-FORCE-MP510-960GB-Storage/dp/B07HR78FQ5 I just built a pc with it and I get 3000MB/s sequential read and write $50 cheaper than the samsung ssd.

Otherwise it looks like a beast of a gaming pc.

The MX500 is a great SSD (I have two), but you'll want to go with an NVMe M.2 drive for your primary boot device.

Amazon has the Sabrent Rocket 1TB for $110. It's one of the best bang for the buck PCI Express 3.0 x4 M.2 drives. Similar Phison E12 controller based drives include the $105 Inland Premium 1TB or Corsair's $125 Force MP510 1TB. These are essentially "template" drives using a common firmware, and will generally perform about the same.

Cost is identical, you gain much higher linear read/write rates, higher IOPS and (marginally) lower access latency. It's also a cleaner installation since it mounts directly to the motherboard.

Edit: Some newer drives utilize PCI Express 4.0 x4 connections to enable higher read/write transfer rates on your X570 platform. Very useful for some tasks (eg, linear video editing), but for most tasks don't offer a massive upgrade from current PCI Express 3.0 x4 drives. Add in the extra expensive (1TB starts at ~$175) and it's tough to recommend for most non power-users at this time.
