For a second, I thought Forst was a guitar company I had never heard of :P

I can give you my experience. Earlier in the year I bought a Kiesel AM8 (shameless plug), and I recently just got it set up by a local luthier for a drop E tuning (all standard except the lowest string, which is an E instead of an F#) with these strings. It has a scale length of 26" on the treble side, and 27-1/2" on the bass side.

I won't speak on the guitar itself (spoiler: I absolutely love it), but rather my experience jumping from a six to an eight string guitar. I am so glad I went with a multiscale guitar. The entire idea of an eight string guitar is pretty extreme, and at drop-E I have a 27-1/2" string trying to do the exact same job as a low E on a bass, which is somewhere around a 35" scale length. On the other hand, you can't go too big with your high strings without sacrificing timbre and all that. You'll see a lot of guitars that try to compromise with a 27" or so scale length, and while the idea makes me squirm a little bit, it's certainly not impossible to work with. Neither Meshuggah, Periphery, nor the bulk of Tosin Abasi's music use multiscale guitars on their 8's (well, the new Meshuggah guy does, but that guitar is weird).

As for tension and string gauge, that calculator already posted is a great resource. It's just a way to get as close as possible to the most efficient circumstance with regards to the physics of your guitar. It makes it much easier to have a more consistent tuning and sound.

Aside from that, I would definitely recommend locking tuners, and some Fishman Fluence pickups. The rest is up to you :)
