First off, you’re an awesome wife!

Edit: first and foremost make him read the manual cover to cover! It doesn’t come with the full manual, so I’m linking to it below. No flying indoors! It is very powerful and stable outside but if you don’t know what you’re doing yet, do NOT fly it indoors. It stabilizes itself with GPS and optical sensors that often don’t work inside and it’ll do weird things like drift around eventually hitting and wall or person and will be an expensive repair. Most newbies that crash either didn’t read the manual to understand how it works fully or tried to fly it in their living room and ate a wall or the ceiling. This thing has a 4 mile range and a living room is puny for the power it has.

2nd point: don’t take off from metal like the roof of a car. It can skew the internal compass and do bad things. If there are errors before takeoff (like “Magnetic Interference”), don’t take off. Move it to another location or solve the problem. Taking off despite a warning is another newbie mistake that makes for expensive crashes.

I highly recommend he watch the Ed Ricker Mavic Pro tutorials on YouTube. Ed covers everything from unboxing to calibrating to first flight and then digs into all the features. Really good videos. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ia5o97OY4Rw

The most useful accessories will be A) More batteries (you get 25 minutes give or take per battery) and B) a decent case.

For the batteries, I recommend only buying DJI batteries. Most people end up with 3-4 batteries total. 3rd party batteries may or may not cause issues. Not worth the risk.

For the case, something simple like this: https://www.amazon.com/DACCKIT-Travel-Carrying-Compatible-Platinum/dp/B06XG6NN8Q/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1540737167&sr=8-5&keywords=MAvic+pro+case&dpID=51JJu%252BuX3%252BL&preST=_SY300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch

Fair warning: drones are flying tech crack. You will be starting an addiction and he will soon daydream about having a fleet of them. 😂

I got the fly more combo which came with the DJI case and recently purchased a very similar case to what you're looking at. I have to say I really like the ability to lay the case flat and take things and replace them as needed.

While the official bag is slightly smaller I found it awkward to use and honestly wasn't a big fan of it. This is the one that I got. So a bit less expensive but same idea. Also it just seems better protected in this case compared to the DJI bag. I'd say go for it.

Honestly, I'd buy this, and then I'd just sling this over my shoulder or attach it to your existing camera bag with the strap.

I own this, and it's perfectly formed to the Mavic. So it protects the Mavic wonderfully. And the price is pretty amazing. It's excellent quality.

I'd feel much better with this setup than potentially having the Mavic rattling around in a conventional camera bag. I also wouldn't feel great if the controller knobs weren't protected by this form fit, either.
