Here is a translation in more casual English with cool woodcut illustrations.

You would love the version by Birk and Sanders. It is very faithful to the original while being completely modernized. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/0811842134
This isn't exactly a graphic novel (illustrations every couple pages or so) but I keep it in my collection because it's close- Dante's Inferno by Sandow Birk and Marcus Sanders. (They did the whole Divine Comedy but I've only read Inferno).
It's written as a poem with full page illustrations here and there, and it follows the meter of the original, but it's abridged with a more contemporary tone of voice & references. The illustrations are fucking beautiful, rendering hell as this kind of twisted sprawl of Los Angeles. It sounds kind of edgy and honestly it gets into that territory a bit, but I've always loved having this as a unique piece on my shelf. Plus, it's still in print and you can get it cheap!
It's been done, let me find it.
Edit: Delivered
I found this. Mr. Virgil is still the guide.
