Diary of the Dead is my favorite movie of his, yet I've seen it being shit on by Reddit (no surprise there though). It's not his best work objectively, but it hits closest to what I want in a zombie movie.
Ideally, I would prefer a 1:1 movie creation of Day by Day Armageddon's first book, but beggars can't be choosers.
Try Day by Day Armageddon. Great writing and the narrator is excellent. One of my favorite apocalyptic/zombie books.
