The best/cheapest red dot for an AR is probably the Bushnell trs-25, I got mine for $52 on sale. That said the Fieldsport is nearly identical and only $20 on Amazon (check out the enthusiastic YouTube reviews). On a high riser ($10) either one will absolute co-witness with iron sights, which you don't have but it also means the scopes high enough for a decent cheek weld.

I prefer a larger viewport though so my favorite is this 32mm one

I have two of those sights, mine are from Dagger Defense. The first one I bought about a year and a half ago, it's worked well so I just got another.

What about this one? $42

I’ve really been liking mine. its a little hard to make fast and loose rules about optics. Oddly, $50 replicas of high end optics like Eotechs are garbage, while $16 replicas of generic red dots work like a charm.

So far, between real and replica the best bang for my buck was one of these cheap babies

As much as I love a tube style red dot, having the whole side area open (in my opinion) makes the whole sight feel less likes it blocking your line of sight, and feels more like you are peering out a window vs down a toilet paper roll. To each his own though!

When it comes to zoom optics, I’ve used 3-9x scopes and found both are a little over powered for airsoft unless you plan on just sniping. If you are using an M4 I’m assuming you will want to perform multiple functions, and I found bringing up the scope & quickly getting a good sight picture was not worth the effort. You simply won’t be shooting that far.

http://amzn.com/B00ZM3TMO0 isn't bad for the money. Its made for real steel.

Love the Dagger Defense red dot scope, have it on my .223 SBR and I can shoot relatively easily out to 50yds. Holds zero quite well too!

I would look into this sight. Not one of the brands you hear often suggested but I have heard good things about it and that particular sight. Plus, it's a bit more on the affordable side of sights if you aren't looking to drop loads of cash on something you won't like or won't need.

The nice thing about optics is that you don't need to shell out a stupid amount of money for a decent sight. I'm using a Dagger Defense red dot I picked up for cheap and I love the thing

Yeah that's Amazon for you, there's always several versions of the same product being sold by different people with the only actual difference being the laser engraved logo. This is the sight that I bought, so that is what I based my price on. If no one is interested after a week or two I will lower the price accordingly.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01EWAAWGU/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1. Shows as unavailable, but the same thing is probably on AMZ somewhere under another brand name -- poke around.

EDIT: Its probably the sames as this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00ZM3TMO0/ref=sspa_dk_detail_5?psc=1

I don't think a FAL is a good gun for much of anything. If you intend on making it your primary though do yourself the favor and run a few hundred rounds through it at the range. Just see how well it holds up and get used to the sights on it by standard just in case.

If all goes well with the shooting test then Id go for the upgrades. I would go with the new stock and probably get a nice RDS on it like the dagger defense DDHB or for longer ranges something like a Trijicon ACOG TA01, however its on the more expensive side of things... For a stock, when I looked its kinda slim pickings but I didn't look too hard but I liked this one a good bit.
