I have a Dell Ultrasharp

It looks great. I think it's got a nice looking frame and everything. The issue I have is calibrating it. I'm not sure if I suck at it or the retina display is that much better, but making it look as good as my retina display (I'm talking colors) just won't workout.

Seriously, the only screen I've seen that comes close to looking as good as a 15" retina on is some of the 4K tvs at Best Buy.

u/fai1 · 11 pointsr/photography

Dell monitors are great, their Ultrasharp IPS range is nice just avoid their new 4k ones as they're pretty bad.

There's this one which is slightly over at $615 but it has 2560 x 1440 resolution.

http://www.amazon.com/Dell-U2713HM-IPS-LED-CVN85-27-Inch-LED-lit/dp/B009H0XQQY/

Or with a 1920 x 1080 resolution theres this one for half the price:

Amazon has also price matched Newegg ($549.99). Better return/shipping policy, imo.

$3000 computer for a videographer... only spends $180 on a 21" monitor? ಠ_ಠ No. No. Nope.

SLI is pretty much useless for video editing (very hit & miss depending on the software) and only adds unnecessary heat and cost to the rig. Drop one of those 780s and focus that money on a quality 24-27" IPS screen and hardware color calibration! (stay the hell away from those budget 4k TN screens)

Edit: Also, if OP is used to their MBP keyboard, I'd recommend picking up a wired Apple keyboard. Personally, I find them much less fatiguing on my fingers. It makes for a seamless transition (if you're still using the MPB) and goes a long way to make your Hackintosh feel more native.

Edit 2: After some very surface level searching, here are some much better monitors the OP should put their money towards: HP 24" z24x P-IPS ,Dell 27" U2713HM P-IPS and Asus 27" PB278Q P-IPS. If it can't come close to 100% sRGB, it's shit. Oh and the monitor color calibrator.

Absolutely. That Ergotron stand has been out for several years, and monitors have gotten a lot lighter since then. Notice that the weight specification is 7-20 pounds per monitor. The Dell U2713HM weighs only 12.44 pounds without its own stand according to the official specs, which is actually less than the old Samsung 2494SW I have paired with it. The Ergotron stand is rock solid, and could easily handle two of these 27" Dells. Just make sure to check the weight of whatever monitor you get, because I know some (at least the Apple Thunderbolt displays) are much heavier.

u/TheMiamiWhale · 4 pointsr/macsetups

If you really don't care whether you go Apple Thunderbolt Display or not, you should give some serious consideration to picking up two of these Dells. You could basically get two Dell 27" displays for the price of one Apple display, and the Dells have the same resolution as the Apple.

I currently have an Apple Cinema Display and absolutely love it. I personally plan on picking up a Thunderbolt display in the future since I already have the Cinema Display. However, if I didn't have this Cinema Display already I'd most likely pick up the Dells.

I'm pretty sure you can daisy chain the displays as well, so you would only need to plug one into your MacBook Pro. As for the dock, not sure what to tell you there.

Actually most IPS monitors are only 60hz. Like the guy above said it kinda depends what you are planning or want from a monitor.

IPS panels look better, they produce better range of colors and really can make a game look gorgous. 120hz monitors on the other hand are usually on TN panels which do not look as good as IPS panels. The argument for TN panels is the high frame rate.

So there are a few things to consider, what kind of hardware do you have? If you think you are going to be limited to gaming at 1080p/60fps then there is no argument, get an IPS panel.

If you have the hardware to support 1080p/120fps or even 1440p/120fps a 120hz TN panel might be what you are looking for.

In my personal experience my setups is an i5-4960k/r9 290. My original monitor was a 21" 1080p/60hz IPS panel. After the first month I grew tired of the monitor because I felt it was too small, I use it for work and use allot of Excel as well. So I upgraded to a 27" Dell UH2713HM. Its a 1440p/60hz monitor with a ton of different inputs, great quality and made working on spreadsheets a beauty.

I think that even if I had a pair of gtx980's in SLI I would still prefer an IPS panel because of how high image quality is. Just my personal opinion though, I feel that 144p/60fps is enough for me right now. Maybe next year I will do 980's in SLI with a 4k IPS panel if price dip down enough.

u/empraptor · 3 pointsr/buildapcsales

(As pointed out by inbredelephant, Newegg has this for $20 lower with the coupon code EMCWWHW25)

Oops, I forgot to mention FREE SHIPPING in the title.

This is the cheapest I've seen it myself. camelcamelcamel indicates it's the lowest it's been on Amazon.

TFT Central review is favourable. The panel is 8-bit AH-IPS with light anti-glare coating. I have another monitor with this type of coating, and I prefer this over other coating types.

I think this would be a great monitor for non-competitive gaming, multimedia, general office use, and non-pro color critical work. If I weren't holding out for a good deal on a 1600p monitor, I would be buying this 1440p.

u/shawn789 · 3 pointsr/graphic_design

The Wirecutter's pick, the [Dell U2713HM] (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009H0XQQY?tag=thewire06-20&linkCode=w34&creative=374929&camp=211189) for best 27" monitor is a little out of your range but you can get a used one for about $100 less. It also seems to be the general consensus that this is the best 27" monitor for your money and it has the most accurate colors of any 27".

The Wirecutter's runner-up for best 24" monitor, the ASUS PA248Q supposedly has the best color accuracy of any 24" monitor.

u/Kidmeepples · 3 pointsr/Monitors

I'm using the Dell one right now(U2713HM) and it's amazing.

Don't let the matte screen fool you, this thing has great colors.

u/JaffaCakes6 · 3 pointsr/buildapc

Korean monitors are simply the panels made by manufacturers for companies like Samsung, Dell, Asus, Apple etc, that didn't quite make the scrupulous grade. The manufacturers then give these panels a basic frame and I/O, then pack em up and sell em cheap.

They're seldom bad quality, often only being a tad inaccurate in terms or colour, or something similar. They can also be overclocked to run at higher refresh rates. They're also stupidly cheap compared to the monitors using marginally better panels from the same vendor (EG - Samsung, Dell, Asus, Apple)

EDIT: For example, this Dell monitor would set you back around $580+, whereas this QNIX (Korean) monitor is only $365. Similar panels, very different cost.

u/qlpc · 3 pointsr/apple

I can really recommend the Dell U2713H, it's the same pannel with better color reproduction and the light mate coating is far better then the thunder bolt display's coating. For half the price.

The design and build quality are worse though, but the stand has a lot of positioning options.

I'm using it right now with a Macbook Air 2013 and it works flawlessly, just don't forget to buy a minidisplayport to displayport cable or a displayport to displayport cable + a minidisplayport to displayport converter. I recommend a minidisplayport to displayport cable though because it's a lot less hassle.

u/diamondshark · 2 pointsr/hardwareswap

You can get a like new one directly from amazon for like $400

u/Teamster · 2 pointsr/buildapc

So, I have no idea which 1440p monitor I should be getting. I've had my eye on the Dell 27" on Amazon for a while, but the price is certainly up there. I dig being able to count on Dell's customer support, and Amazon's legendary service.

The alternative is the Yamakasi 27", which predictably doesn't have the same guarantees of service and actual working condition.

Now, I'm not averse to getting either, despite the price. I'm just wondering if I'm throwing away money getting the Dell, when I could be getting the Yamakasi. Alternatively, if I would be tempting fate getting the Yamakasi, when Amazon has that Dell.

Side note, if anyone knows of a good way to mount an older 1200p 27" monitor on a wall, with the ability to tilt and swivel, let me know.

u/Thesk1llerz · 2 pointsr/gamingpc

Im in the same boat as you this is what I had in mind,

I was thinking About having a 1440p monitor in the middle and then two 1080p monitors on the side and then just switch the resolution of the 1440p monitor when I want to play at 5760x1080. I have been trying to find a setup of for this but I have had some difficulties. First, you want to keep bezels at a minimum 1440p monitors have large bezels. (The smallest I could find was a dell one)

The second problem is that in an ideal 5760x1080p setup you want all monitors to be similar when regarding screen size and the aesthetics of the monitor. This means your going to have 1080p panels at 27" and it also means that one is going to have to sit about 3 - 4ft away from the 1080 monitors (I got this figure through personal testing using a 32" 1080p monitor)

The last problem is that running a panel at its non native resolution will lower the image quality. I have yet to see any tests or pictures of 1440p panels running at 1080p.

Just my 2 Cents

On a side note,

What system do you plan on driving this with? I'm also trying to build a system from the ground up and I haven't been able find something that I deem good enough for my budget.

Edit
I forgot to add which 27" panels I would use, Dell S2740L

u/Natilator · 2 pointsr/Monitors

If I were you I would definitely look into getting a 2560x1440 monitor, it will be fantastic for any sort of editing and will provide a stellar gaming experience too. Unfortunately most of the affordable displays have to be imported from Korea via eBay, here are some links: Qnix, Achieva Shimian, Yamakasi Catleap. There is another alternative if you're absolutely sure you want a 1440p monitor and you don't want to take the risk with a Korean display. Monoprice sells a 2560x1440 IPS display for under $400. Dell and ASUS also have a really nice 1440p monitor, they just tend to be more expensive.

I think if I were you I would take a serious look at the Shimian Achieva, while it's a smidge more expensive then the Qnix, it has a glossy finish which aids the vibrancy of the colours it's displaying and would be the best pick for photoshop and other editing programs. Take in mind that without a matte finish it can succumb to screen glare but if you're willing to tweak the lighting in your room, it'll look fantastic.

Then you can afford a second Korean 1440p monitor into your budget if you want to or if you'd like to save some money then you could just look into a cheap 1920x1080 screen for a secondary monitor if you'll only be using one monitor for the important stuff (editing and gaming). But if you want my honest opinion, the ultimate setup for your needs and your budget would include this BenQ display. It is simply one of the best gaming monitors ever made-- it has a sweet 144Hz refresh rate, unbelievable build quality and can be put into portrait mode incredibly easily. On the negative side it is not an IPS screen and is not 1440p but if you play any sort of competitive game (SC2, LoL/DotA, Counterstrike) you will see the buttery smoothness that this monitor offers. If you combine that with a 1440p screen, that is a delightful combination.

u/killevery1ne · 2 pointsr/buildapc

For aesthetics, definitely IPS over TN. IPS has a slower response time, but as you said you won't be able to notice it. By trading that, it has a FAR higher no. of colors it can display and looks more... vivid. Also easily 1440p over 1080p - just no contest, esp. with a 780.

Dell makes a VERY nice monitor but it costs a hell of a lot -

http://www.amazon.com/Dell-U2713HM-IPS-LED-CVN85-27-Inch-LED-lit/dp/B009H0XQQY

so does asus - http://www.amazon.co.uk/PB278Q-Widescreen-Multimedia-2560x1440-DisplayPort/dp/B009668YPM

Really depends on your budget, but honestly I'd get a korean IPS panel. Great color, Very cheap compared to others and response time is nothing to worry about. overclockable too.

I am a Dell monitor fan boy.

I purchased one of these back in 2013: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009H0XQQY/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Searching Dell monitors, I believe the Dell Ultrasharp line have the best color reproduction as well as they come calibrated from the factory. I purchased all my monitors open box or slightly used for a huge discount. Just make sure you can easily return the item if you aren't totally satisfied.

Check this one out:

Check out the used section. Also check out camelcamelcamel.com to get a price history of the monitor.

Yup. Dell's U2713HM, which Amazon is now selling for a shockingly cheap $518 at the moment. Love that monitor.

u/leftnotracks · 1 pointr/graphic_design

No higher than 1080p. Forget that. Try this guy.

u/[deleted] · 1 pointr/BuyItForLife

I have a dual holding two of these, and it works great!

u/longshot2025 · 1 pointr/buildapc

Unless you need the color range the U2711 has (if you don't know, you probably don't), the 2713 will be better for you. USB 3.0 and an LED backlight should use less power.

I'm a bit surprised to see the U2711 finally going for cheaper than the 2713 (it's stayed higher for quite some time), but if you can get it from Amazon the U2713HM is no more expensive.

u/notwitty_username · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

I would just get a really nice Dell they use the nicest panels on the market. Why not a TITAN?

Dell U2713HM $599.96

u/crackbabyathletics · 1 pointr/buildapc

That display is much worse than the one with the iMac, it needs to be a 1440p IPS to be comparable. Edit: something like a dell u2713H would be a similar display.

Possibly something like this if you wanted something a bit cheaper:

Second edit:
This uses the same or a very similar panel I believe

If you're willing to stretch the extra $70 or so, get the Dell U2713HM from Amazon. They have a pixel perfect exchange. I had to swap mine 3 times, but never paid for shipping either way.

I just got this one http://www.amazon.com/Asus-VE278Q-27-Inch-Integrated-Speakers/dp/B0043T34RK when was on sale for $200. It's Ok for the price. has two hdmi and speakers, I have to mac minis connected to it.

I wanted this one but is 3 times the asus. http://www.amazon.com/Dell-U2713HM-IPS-LED-CVN85-27-Inch-LED-lit/dp/B009H0XQQY/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top more pictures here http://www.monitorsforphotoediting.com/dell-u2713hm-ips-led-cvn85-27-inch-screen-led-lit-monitor-review/

The speakers are difficult to find (they stopped making them years ago). They are the Logitech Z-2300's. Here is the monitor: http://www.amazon.com/Dell-U2713HM-IPS-LED-CVN85-27-Inch-LED-lit/dp/B009H0XQQY

u/theholylancer · 0 pointsr/Games

what is your res?

if you are not playing on at least a http://www.amazon.com/Dell-U2713HM-IPS-LED-CVN85-27-Inch-LED-lit/dp/B009H0XQQY or tri 1080p setup then having VH is not that good, even maximum isn't really good for a PC

i mean do this, compare those gfx with a next gen preview footage, are they different? build a PC that just have the gfx of 360 and see how much difference is there. i can say that your eye isn't going to tell the difference until there is some major difference thrown in.

and clearly, GFX is not your pain point if you are bring up prices and what nots.
