One of the best things (for me) about DevaCurl is that they sell lots of mini versions of things. If shipping isn't too absurd, you might start off with their basic trial kit (no poo / one condition / light hold gel / second-day spray) -- when my hair was low porosity, this was basically all I needed, and they're still my favorite of their products.

You do have beautiful hair! I wish mine would curl like that without getting super frizzy.

Conditioning won't ruin your hair, it just changes the way your scalp produces oil. Shampooing does this as well. If you want to try something different, a product I love for curly hair is Deva.

Also, you should not comb curly hair once you get out of the shower! Comb it while it has conditioner in it, rinse off with cool (preferably cold) water. Hot or warm water opens the cuticle and washes away the conditioner you use. You want the cuticle to close around the conditioner to keep hair soft and silky and shiny, so use cooler water to rinse conditioner out. When you finish washing, just give it a gentle squeeze and wrap it in a towel. The reason you don't comb curly hair is because you want to have the biggest curls you can have. Combing it separates the hair, making it look more fro'ish.

Maybe try buying their [travel set] (http://www.amazon.com/DevaCurl-Deva-Curl-Travel-Kit/dp/B000QSDHPG) to see if you like the product? I got it for around $30 I believe.
