I'm a little late but I can confirm that the following USB-C Ethernet adapter works with the 2017 GearVR & Galaxy S8. Super useful to know for anyone like me who was trying to get a solid, wired, connection to the PC for Vridge. I found an old router and set it up on my desk unconnected to the internet just to use with the gearvr and riftcat. I have the nolo vr so I just taped a long R45 cable to the nolo's tether cable. The router isn't connected to the internet so I'm still using the newer router that's in another room for wifi access. Had to do some troubleshooting to get windows to use the wifi connection for internet instead of the internetless ethernet connection. Initially when testing I completely disabled wifi on the S8 to confirm it works and now I just select the ethernet connection in riftcat instead of automatic. Speed seems to be about the same as if it was connected via usb tethering. I don't know if this will work on other devices like the S7 but from what I was reading a few days ago it sounds like it might only work with the S8/S8+ as the phone supports an ethernet connection probably because of the Dex dock.
