Well it is more a favourite series and world I'm going to talk about in a mildly incoherent manner.
The Dragonriders of Pern might not be the best written books nor most intricate of plots but they are my mental retreat. For about four years I was heavily involved in DRoP roleplay forums. It was my escape, my solace. The world McCaffery created became my safe haven and I know it like the back of my hand. The geography, the history, the customs. They're second nature to me. So when I pick up any of the books, old or new, I feel right at home.
My favourite of the series is Dragonsdawn. It has more of a scifi twist to it as it describes how Pern came to be colonised and the trials those first human inhabitants faced on this strange new planet. I think it's pretty cool how the Dragons came to be.
