I'm still learning myself but here's what I think I has benefited my progress.

1. I agree with u/TheQuantumZero on the importance of meditation.
   
   Do it daily and see if you can build it up to 30 mins at a time.
   
   I have an alternate view on whether or not to make meditation a habit - I meditate best and get the most from it when I set the same time for meditation, as I have realized I have the most mental energy for it in the mornings.
   
   The best strategy is to always take other peoples varying opinions onboard and then do what you feel works best for you personally.
   
   
2. Its important to read but even more important to try stuff out. For a few weeks, try to follow the experiments in these books :
