SHP9500 and a V-moda Boompro is honestly probably your best bet, just for getting a full headset experience for gaming. Don't pay $100 or more for the SHPs, though... Be willing to pay $80 max, but preferably in the $60ish range. They're not closed back, but they'd make a great gaming combo.

If you want suuuper wide and accurate soundstage for gaming and can go with open back after all, then Audio-Technica 500X, 700X, or 900X (probably 500x or 700x for your budget and considering you'll need to fit a mic in there too). Check used listings and you can easily find one of those well below $100. No detachable cable, but that's the tradeoff. Get a clip-on mic or a desk mic on an arm or something like that (think podcaster setup).

If you reeeeeeeeally want to save some money, I would honestly suggest the Superlux HD681 with a clip-on mic or the desk mic or something like that. I'm actually selling my whole setup here. I'm not trying to push my sale on you btw. I don't care if you buy it or not; I just want to stress that I've been using that combo for gaming for two years and it's been absolutely fucking amazing for its price point. The wideness and accuracy of the soundstage on the Superlux HD 681 is amazeballs for its price point and it doesn't sacrifice bass (that much) either.

Finally, since you're stressing that you want closed back, you could go for a Beyerdynamic Custom One Pro with a V-moda boompro (it's a detachable cable, so it will work). This one would obviously go beyond your budget, but if you find the headphones used on ebay or something you could stay fairly close to 100).

Also, these Edifiers and these Monoprice headphones are both closed back and have detachable cables, so they should be compatible with the v-moda boompro mic. I can't speak to the quality of them what.so.ever., though, so it might be a gamble. They don't look particularly comfortable and the price would make me question their sound quality, but you can certainly research reviews if there are any out there.

All in all, if these are 100% for gaming, you pretty much can't beat the Audio-Technica 500x, 700x, or 900x at your price point. They're light on bass, but they're the kings of gaming it seems. And (IMHO) the Superlux HD 681 and Superlux HD 668b are the budget gaming headphones of choice. It's just that none of those are compatible with the v-moda boompro mic (tecnically, the 668b is but it would be awkward).

Unless closed back is ABSOLUTELY necessary, I would keep open backs in the running. And I also would not prioritize the v-moda boompro mic. That's exactly what I did, and I wished I hadn't. Focus on the headphones you want and then work your mic setup around that.

What are you looking for exactly? Aren't the 69s like 100 dollars cheaper? That's a big stretch.

I have also been looking to improve my audio rig as of late, had been using an ok headset for ages, so I started researching a lot. I was also considering the ones you suggest, even found used ones a bit cheaper, but they're really expensive in my country. After a lot of research, I decided to get a pair of Edifier H850, they had really good reviews from audiophiles and they are considerably cheaper. I'm also gonna get a cheap DAC from aliexpress and I think it's a pretty good start coming from the most basic headset + just plugged into my PC. If I get more into it I'll shoot for something more fancy in the future, and these will always be good for carrying around and whatnot.

Anyway, here you have an in depth reviews on the HD 500 series, pretty sure they're open though: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FMgmV33fPG0&feature=youtu.be

Samson meteor mic is very comparable to at and blu mics. about 60 dollars. Then pick up something like this for 50 dollars. Your quality is going to be far superior. Pick up rb6 at another time. http://www.amazon.com/Edifier-H850-Over-Ear-Audiophile-Headphones/dp/B013J8DROA/ref=sr_1_1?s=aht&ie=UTF8&qid=1453585260&sr=1-1&keywords=headphone&refinements=p_72%3A1248879011%2Cp_36%3A1253504011#customerReviews

gaming headsets are prone to breaking and just like consoles, can never compete to a nice headphone and desk mic.

The following headphones all work with the BoomPro.
