Upon asking around a bit and doing some searching, I’ve raised my budget a little bit. I’d like to spend no more than $2,000 to get started.
I’m looking for a home theater setup.
I’m looking for a 9.2 receiver with Dolby Atmos capability (with the goal of eventually having either a 5.2.4 or 7.2.2 setup). I am going to use the receiver to shuffle through my hdmi sources (Dolby vision and high speed Hdmi required). I have had my sights set on the Onkyo TX-NR787. I was primarily looking at getting a Sony receiver, because of the compatibility with the tv and player, but the price jump seems to be huge going from 7.2 to 9.2.
In terms of speakers, the room I’m setting this new project up in used to be a 2 car garage, so it’s pretty large. I will be tearing up the current tile flooring and having carpet installed. With all of this, I would like to use a 5.2 setup to start with floor standing speakers for fronts. I raised my budget up from $1500 to make some room for decent quality speakers.
This will be used for watching movies 90% of the time. It will also be used for some music and video games. Seating will be about 8-9 feet away from my TV.
In terms of audio gear, I am starting from scratch. The tv is a 75” Z9D.
Sony X700 for most of the movies, Apple TV for some.
See above.
I’d rather buy new, just because of the peace of mind in having a warranty and knowing the history and treatment of what I’m using.

Thanks so much for reading this post...it’s been a long one! I’m looking forward to the expert input!
Edit: the Ascend Acoustics “Sierra 4” setup is being recommended quite a bit. Do any of you have some personal experience with this setup?
Whats better? This system for $1749 or the ELAC HT bundle for $1299 here https://www.amazon.com/Elac-Speaker-Acoustech-Platinum-Subwoofer/dp/B0777SZDCH/ ?
