If you can push your budget higher, I would recommend this Eluktronics mech g2 because it has great combination between value for money, weight, battery life, and performance.

Here is a small review of it:

The outer shell is made almost entirely out of metal

Keyboard is mechanical with RGB backlit.

It has 3 USB type A, Ethernet, and mic and headphone jack and on the back an HDMI and USB type C.

Screen is IPS with impressively small bezels, and a professional design.

Lid can't be open with one hand.

Fans get loud under intensive work, but that is normal with every good gaming laptop.

Plenty of upgrade options as the chassis supports up to 64GB of ram, and 2 SSDs and 1 HDD.

Heat management is great, it can get hot but it gets cool again pretty quickly once the fans kick in.

Main con of the laptop is the trackpad, it is mediocre at best when you compare it to other laptops in the price range.

Battery life during normal usage is around 3.5-4.5 hours and 1.5 hour during gaming.

Speakers are down facing so during gaming it is best to wear headphone since the fan gets loud during gaming as well.

Ninja Edit: if you want 144 hz there is another configuration that has that, but it will cost more.

For cooling, the Eluktronics Mech-15 G2 is the best. I would go for the one I linked specifically, high refresh rate + 16 GB of RAM. The laptop does not thermal throttle according to Dave Lee's review. If you don't want the 144Hz display or its not in your budget, then this one is fine.

I would go with Acer Predator Helios 300 because your option Eluktronics P650 in this price range comes with 7th gen i7 processor, and they both with Eluktronics MECH-15 has 60Hz display refresh rate, when Acer comes with 144Hz, 300nit Brightness & 72% NTSC.

How about the Eluktronics MECH-15 G2 ?

It has:

15.6 in screen

GTX 1060 (regular not max-q)

i7-8750H 6 core processor

16 GB Ram

512 GB SSD

Mechanical keyboard if you’re into that

Costs $1300

Battery life is poor though (only around 4 hours of standard browsing I’ve found)

The ASUS ZenBook Pro 15 UX550VE-DB71T is quite a decent pick for what you are looking for.

Does this Eluktronics MECH-15 G2 here look like something you would work with in terms of appearance ? It is not as flashy as typical gaming laptops, pretty sleek and slim and of course, it quite a bit more powerful than the Zenbook.

With your needs in mind you need a strong CPU and those are usually found in gaming laptops. The main issue with gaming laptops is heat management but since you won't be gaming much you should be find. Look at the Eluktronics MECH-15 G2 which has a powerful CPU which will speed up a lot of your work. The GPU will be wasted but you can't avoid it

  • Intel i7-8750H Hexa Core
  • 6GB GDDR5 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060
  • 15.6” Full HD Display
  • 512GB SSD + 16GB DDR4 RAM

One of your better options is probably the Dell XPS 15 9570 because of its color accurate display (1080p model has 96% sRGB, 62% adobe RGB) and GTX 1050 Ti graphics. Its display is also quite a bit brighter than comparable options, and it would work well for moderate gaming (including games you mentioned).

It also is lightweight, and has an excellent battery life. It is a bit above your price range, but has a much higher storage capacity compared to most options you'll find.

Also feel free to check Dell's website for coupons/sales. They likely will run some within the next few weeks as the holiday season starts.

Another decent options include the Eluktronics Mech-15. It also has a pretty solid display (72% NTSC), powerful graphics card, and better cooling than the XPS 15.

Hi! I just made a post here, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask you. What's the difference between these two?

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GH18GQ4/

I'm not very laptop literate and I can't find the reason they are different and if one is better than the other.

I really appreciate any help!
