Hi git34 and welcome to my sub about acer laptops so I am going to recommend a good laptop to that is not an acer. It is the Eluktronics P650RP6 Premium VR Ready Gaming Laptop
Here are some of the pros of it you will be pleased

  • Desktop-grade GTX 1060 inside a laptop. Compared to the previous generations of laptop NVIDIA GPUs, the GTX 1060 is in another class of its own. It easily handles every game I've thrown at it so far at max settings (1080p resolution) without a sweat.

  • Quad-core hyperthreaded i7-6700HQ CPU. More than enough CPU horsepower for games right now, and probably for games in the next few years to come. Also great for other tasks such as video editing and college-level programming and data processing (I also use this laptop for school projects that involve processing relatively large amounts of data sets).
  • Four to five hours battery life for non-gaming purposes. I haven't tried gaming while not plugged in to the power brick (not recommended), but for general purposes the laptop lasts decently long for a power-hungry laptop.
  • Runs relatively cool while gaming. My previous laptop would hit 90+ Celsius on both the CPU and GPU while gaming, but the P650RP6 keeps cool and quiet while under load (fans noise are still noticeable but not bothersome), never exceeding 76 Celsius on both the CPU and GPU.
  • RGB Keyboard. Not a big positive but pretty cool, especially since I can customize the keyboard to light up in a wide variety of patterns.
  • VR capable. I haven't personally tested this out yet but theoretically this laptop should be able to handle VR gaming with the GTX 1060.
  • Price-to-performance ratio. While there are better and stronger laptops out there, they are significantly more expensive, and few pack a GTX 1060 or stronger GPU for this price (I got the $1400 version with 8GB RAM, 128GB SSD, and 1TB hard drive; it makes more economical sense to buy the cheapest configuration and replace/upgrade the SSD and RAM as needed).
  • Speakers positioned near the screen facing the user. Much better design than bottom-mounted speakers, which is a pretty common laptop design.
  • Solid build quality. The laptop feels solid and rigid while using and transporting.

Just looked around myself and saw this on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Eluktronics-P650RP6-Premium-Gaming-Laptop/dp/B01KZ6B8YK/ref=sr_1_9?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1480974850&sr=1-9&keywords=15.6+gaming+laptop+1060

The specs are insane for the price. I would ask around as I've not heard of the company before but they seem to be legit at first glance.

MSI is a good brand, you wont not go wrong to go with it. I'd take a look at the Eluktronics laptops, based of Clevo Models. Their really popular for the type of machine you're looking at, and have the best reviews you'll ever see on a laptop. The Eluktronics P650RP6 would be the comparable one vs the one you're looking at rn. Look through the reviews, im sure you'll be a little more confident about it after reading it, the MSI is good bang for your buck.

There you go it is more expensive because it also comes with double the SSD storage.

Welcome to Reddit and even a bigger welcome to SuggestALaptop Sub. I am glad you have an idea of the specs you are looking for- the 6th gen i7 quad core processor , GTX 1060 graphics card, 16 GB RAM and an SSD inclusion is exactly the combo you should be going for in that budget based on what you want this computer to do. This Eluktronics P650RP6 Premium VR Ready Gaming Laptop would give you all that you are looking for and even allows you to save some valuable $$. It has the Core i7-6700HQ Quad Core processor, a massive 32 GB RAM, awesome storage with a 512GB SSD + 1TB HDD and of course, the solid GeForce GTX 1060 graphics card. This laptop also has a very nice build quality, good cooling, nice display quality, a great full sized keyboard etc... It has all the ports you will ever need and many other features inclusive of a finger print reader.
