Apologies for the ref (rec. cannabis video*), but this method works pretty well (provided your plant isn't root bound*).
Essentially you use your existing, first pot, as a template to create a hole in the soil - then fill up your new, larger pot around; thus creating a perfect void to merely drop in your whole root ball. It's a nice, gentle way to repot without stressing out the plant, it merely stretches into new soil rather than being transported into a new environment.
The mycorrhizae tip in the vid is not joke, its a great amendment if you're growing organically in living soil. Hope that helps / makes sense.
