Try the big ISO websites like PJM (http://www.pjm.com/markets-and-operations/etools.aspx) NEISO, NEPOOL, CAISO, ERCOT. They have tons of info on generators and grids. Look at the FTR data (transmission rights) because that will show all the grid nodes and lines. There are some companies like http://www.ventyx.com/en/resources/industry/energy that have a ton of data, although you generally have to pay.

An excellent general book on electricity and more generally energy trading is the book by Eydeland and whatshisname, and it's not outrageously overpriced either.
