Get the Sennheiser HD58x instead of these if you're looking for gaming cans. It's well worth the 40$ more.

EDIT: As others mentioned, if you need one that comes with mic PC37X (120$) or Game Ones (120$ at amazon) are right up your alley.

u/HighQualityH2O_22 · 25 pointsr/buildapcsales

The Sennheiser Game One's are currently $129.95 on amazon right now. While they aren't a bad headset at all, that's a significant price difference. The Retro's and pads are about $47 before taxes. Throw in a cheap clip on mic like this one and now it's just under $60 before taxes. Not everyone has 100+ bucks to spend on a headset.

u/Ronjon18 · 14 pointsr/HeadphoneAdvice

I had these Game One's before going with the Sennheiser Jubilee 58x and Modmic 4 setup. The 58x is easy to drive, and sound amazing! I also had the Philips SHP9500, and it did not sound nearly as good as the 58x, but it's so much cheaper that it's well within your budget. If listening to music is important to you, then I believe the separate mic setup would be a much better fit. Otherwise, I highly recommend the Game One's.

You can get 3T HDDs for just slightly more than 2T these days.

Also, of OP decides he wants to spend a bit more on the rig itself :

I dont think it can get better than this for content creation.

On topic of desks - this is what I use(only in black color instead of wood) nothing fancy, but its sturdy. Amazon has plenty of that stuff so pick whatever you are fancy. ~200$ for a decent table should do.

On topic of chairs - "gaming" chairs are bullshit. Overpriced, and build quality, comfort and materials are not even that great. What you want is a high-end office aka "executive" chair. This is really good one. Lots of em on Amazon as well.

If you need a headset Sennheiser Game One is about as good as headsets can get.
u/Warskull · 5 pointsr/buildapcsales

Correct, all USB mics have limitations. Anything that is USB will be entry level and sound a bit tinny.

I would be iffy about $50, the difference between a Yeti and a Snowball is minimal and you can get a snowball for $35. If the Snowball didn't exist $50 for a Yeti would be okay.

For $109 you can get yourself a Sennheiser Game One which is a solid set of headphones and a comparable microphone.

Each microphone sounds different, but if you did a blind test your average redditor would not be able to pick out which is the snowball, which is the yeti, and which is the game one. They would have a very difficult time picking out which is best.

In fact for microphones, there is no "best audio." Even in the high end it is about finding a set-up that works well with your voice more than anything.

The best description of Blue I've heard is that they are the Apple of the microphone world.

u/aquastorm · 4 pointsr/PS4

Just an FYI 7.1 on a headset is a gimmick. There are not 7 speakers in the ear cups so it is simulated surround. You're better off getting a good pair of open back headphones as a good open back headphone will provide you with a wider soundstage and will give you a better sense of direction with sounds.

I would recommend anything from sennheiser if you need a built in mic as well. Those would be a good option for you and will sound a thousand times better than what you're looking at.

I spent the better part of yesterday weighing my options but settled on the sennheiser g4me one for $165:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KK8ZLEC/

The g4me zero is also available for $120 but I decided against them since they are closed back and have leather which means sweaty ears but otherwise great value. Also worth considering as an even cheaper alternative is the sennheiser gsp 300s which are pretty much on par and going for $70 on amazon:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LcpO_EwH6f4

The main reason I settled on the g4me one is because of the mic quality and it's backround noise cancellation, best demonstrated in this video IMO:

Increase budget to $150 and you can go with Sennheiser Game One.

Surround sound headphones sound so muddy to me, I haven't heard a good pair. I skip the gimmick. I'd advise a visit to /r/headphones but a Quick suggestion below

The difference between these two are one is open meaning vents to improve sound quality and closed incase you can't allow much sound to escape from open headphones. I've talked to DAC makers and they seem to actually perfer USB 2.0 over 3.0 for audio, I'll need to check my emails for the exact reason.

https://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-GAME-Gaming-Headset-Black/dp/B00KNPYAEY

Also Sennheiser has the most comfortable headphones in the business IMO. I have Sennheiser HD650 and sometimes forget I'm wearing them. (don't get HD650 without an Amplifier and DAC)

Yes. It has a Ryzen 5 2600 and a GTX 1070 Ti, and with that at its core good components. Even a proper model of the 1070 Ti.

The build is not completely optimal: It misses a HDD (250GB SSD as storage is not enough) and the ram is slow, which is especially bad for a Ryzen processor.

Sadly for the buyer, you can buy the PC for less (with fast ram):

It's not a scam, it is just that the gpu got a lot cheaper, and maybe they paid unnecessarily more for the SSD, psu and board.

Do the peripherals make up for it?

1. Senheiser Game one, $129
Logitech G413, $55, refursbished
G600, $40, refurbished
Logitech G13, $60, out of stock though and more expensive on Amazon

Total: 1059 + 129 + 55 + 40 + 60 = 1343

So if you really want the peripherals and the PC itself work fine and you are okay with not being the original warranty holder (which is not always a problem, depends on the company) then the deal is okayish. Maybe not having to actually build the PC is even a plus in your eyes.

I would get the PC components new, add a HDD, and buy cheaper peripherals. Apart from the gameboard (do you want that?) my suggestions:

Corsair Gaming Harpoon, $28
Plugable Mechanical Keyboard, $54
HyperX Cloud Stinger, $49

Especially for the headset there could be different good options. Also the keyboard can be cheaper when not wanting a mechanical, even that Amazon basic keyboard is good enough to game on it for a few years.

I went with an astro mixamp and paired it with a Sennheiser 558hd headset. It came out to about $150 during a sale. If you can afford it, it's best to get an excellent stereo headset and pair it with an amp to give you virtual surround. I ended up getting a sennheiser game one headset later to have a built in mic. This headset is very comfortable and is open back. If you prefer closed back, there is the game zero.

If your budget is firm and you can deal with wireless, the sony gold and platinum headsets are actually pretty good. The difference being the golds have 40mm drivers and the Platinum has 50mm drivers plus 3d sound capability.

> It's not going to be the popular opinion around here but audiophile headphones will blow astros out of the water. Astros have desirable features but mediocre sound quality and less than stellar build quality.

Without a doubt 100% correct

I'll be buying this setup within the 1st few weeks of January, Sennheiser G4ME ONE, Astro Mixamp Pro, headset adapter and a 2.5 to 3.5 chat cable.

You simply can't not go wrong at all with a decent pair of Sennheiser's paired up with Astro's Mixamp Pro which will power the Sennheiser's with 7.1 sound.

u/MonkeyTheMonk · 2 pointsr/buildapc

I assume you want an actual headset. I've been happily using the sennheiser game one these for the last few years, and they've held up well.

u/sardeliac · 2 pointsr/StateOfDecay

Not sure what price range "reasonably affordable" is for ya. I use the Sennheiser Game One (non-affiliated link). Am a fan of the open-back design and the auto-mute when the boom is raised. Definitely want a windscreen for the mic, though; without it your voice can get really hissy. It's not wireless but the cable's like six feet long.

u/Zero0400 · 2 pointsr/HeadphoneAdvice

I'd recommend either the Sennheiser 598 and get yourself a modmic,

or go simple and just get a Sennheiser GAME ONE with a mic already built in.

My friends really enjoy the game one's since the mic mutes itself when it's flipped upwards.

u/SkyPuncher · 2 pointsr/Rainbow6

I might recommended Sennheiser's Game One and Game Zero headset: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KK8ZLEC/ref=twister_B00OZP5HG8?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

I've had the mine for two years now with daily use (I also use it on conference calls at work).

u/jakedageek127 · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

The corsair mice and keyboard are good, consider the corsair scimitar mouse for mobas.

The corsair gaming headsets are okay but I would personally save up a bit more and get the sennheiser headset, the sound quality difference is significant.

u/SloppyCandy · 2 pointsr/buildapc
  1. Probably. MOST of the time the go to recomendation these days is a decent pair of headphones + a separate mic (either a Mod-mic or a freestanding like a Snowball). If it has to be a headset I believe people like the Sennheiser Game One (or game Zero) more. https://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-GAME-ONE-Gaming-Headset/dp/B00KK8ZLEC

  2. Headphone amplifiers are pretty common and COULD help with issues, but that would be more down to specifics. Also they tend to be better suited for more expensive headphones than a $70 "gaming" headset. It seems... odd to me that the output amplification messes with the mic sensitivity that much.

  3. This may have hit the nail on the head. Depending on the age of your mobo and the quality at the time, it may be equipped with particularly bad audio DAC and AMP. A modern upgrade will likely solve these issues (as you noticed with your laptop). Another option would could be a soundcard or external USB dac/amp if you can't really rebuild right now.

My suggestion: If you are against the separate headphone+mic setup pick up the Sennheiser Game one/zero. See how that works. If it still feel bad maybe consider an very cheap usb/dac solution, an example https://www.amazon.com/Creative-Labs-70SB173000000-Sound-Blaster/dp/B06XBZ38ZJ/ref=sr_1_19?keywords=usb+dac+amp&qid=1565901861&s=gateway&sr=8-19

So I was looking through options that you posted above, one being headphones + modmic + E10K and the other being Game One + E10K and the difference is around $100. My question is, is sound difference that big to be worth $100 or not? Option 1 being $316 and Option 2 $226. I keep reading that difference between 598s and GameOne is not that big, what's your opinion?

I really, really like my Sennheiser Game One's. I got them at the suggestion of the guys at The Wirecutter and have absolutely no complaints. Great sound, great positioning when paired with the Razr surround headphone software, and the mic sounds great.

Ninja Edit: Though, the biggest downside is that they really only sound -great- if you have an audio card with a built-in amp, or get an external DAC/AMP.

u/trustinbacon · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

The drivers that come with it should have virtualization on by default.

Couple things I would change is probably going for the Sound Blaster Z and getting the G4me One from Amazon. The white edition is even cheaper.

u/Sniper_Joe · 1 pointr/buildapc

I know I don't need a sound card or a DAC/AMP setup, but if my budget allows it (~100$), would I benefit from adding one of them to my system? I'm mainly doing heavy gaming and light music listening through streaming services such as spotify. No audio production of any sorts.

I'm planning a new build that has an Asus Z170-A that has the ALC892 audio codec. My sound comes from a Logitech z623 2.1 system and a pair of Sennheiser Game Ones

u/Blais_Of_Glory · 1 pointr/BudgetAudiophile

For speakers, if space is an issue, you should get the Micca MB42X then, as they're much smaller than the JBL LSR305s. Or you could even just get the Micca MB42. I have the JBL LSR305s and a fairly small desk and they fit. I have a 23-inch monitor and one speaker on each side of the monitor. You may also want to get a DAC for your speakers, like the Schiit Modi 2 / (Amazon link) or a DAC/amp combo, like the Schiit Fulla / (Amazon link) or FiiO E10K (Amazon link) or AudioQuest - DragonFly (Amazon link).

For headphones/headsets, you have many choices. If you are a gamer, you should check out Sennheiser's gaming headsets. If you don't plan on gaming and just want to listen to music, check out the Sennheiser HD series. They can be found much cheaper on Amazon, eBay, or other various retailers. I personally have the Sennheiser PC363D headset for gaming and unfortunately paid about $240 for them, not even 6 months ago. Right after I bought them, the price on Amazon dropped dramatically, to around $130. I just checked on Amazon and now they're back up to around $219, but if you watch them, they will probably drop again like they did before. Or you can check on eBay. Sennheiser does have cheaper models though (all of these are around $150 or less) like the brand new Sennheiser GSP300 / (Amazon link), Sennheiser GSP350 / (Amazon link), or the Sennheiser GAME ONE / (Amazon link). I have tried a few different brands and Sennheiser is my favorite for performance. I also have the Sennheiser HD 598 SE / (Amazon link) for listening to music and the Sennheiser RS120 II wireless headphones (Sennheiser RS 120 (older model) (Amazon link)) for my TV and got them for my parents too. If you live in a place where you can't have your TV or music too loud, the wireless headphones are very helpful. Overall, I use the Sennheiser PC 363D headset the most and it sounds awesome. If you're a gamer, get a gaming headset, or if you just listen to music, the HD series are great too.

u/octovert · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

So the word on the street is that that is a great headset, but a lot of people don't like the "floating" headband design and they end up slapping a few rubber bands on there to keep it in place, as it'll move on your head if you turn your head quickly.

I use the Sennheiser Game One
which is cheaper than what you're looking at, doesn't have the headband issue, and works fantasticly. I'd consider that one.

If you're looking at an XLR mic, are you looking to be a streamer?

u/_AirCanuck_ · 1 pointr/Gaming_Headsets

two questions for you on this front...

First, it seems that the Game One actually comes with a dual cable and a single 3.5mm connection. Do you know if this one will work for the Xbox or if I do indeed need an adapter? Link to details:

Second, would you recommend the Hyperx Cloud Alpha or the Game One, and why?

Thank you for all your help. Your many posts and comments are super informative!

u/imeanwhyevenbother · 1 pointr/buildapcsales

No. Bolt on mod mics are way inferior to the Game One Mic and the cost will be more after paying another 50-70 bucks for a modmic.

If you primarily want a headset the Game One at $106! / PC37x at $90! (reg $120) is the best you can do under $200. The mic is great and the sound will be equivalent to the 599.

Actually, they aren't.

  • Zero

The the foam pads on the One, would shove the entire outer ear out of the cavity. It's just harder to notice from the product pictures, but it's there.

After buying myself a pair of HD 598SE, I have almost all the headphones I need; all I need now is a gaming headset. I play on PC occasionally, but I am mainly a XB1 gamer who plugs my headphones into my controller, so whatever I get, it has to have a 3.5mm jack to fit in controller, my PC, and (hopefully) my mobile device; in other words, No USB Headsets, and No 6.3mm jacks.

Currently, I'm mulling a couple options in my head.

Option 1: Get a normal set of cans with a removable 3.5mm cable so I can replace them with the V-Moda BoomPro Mic Cable. (I would have already done this to my HD 598s but for the proprietary Sennheiser cable.) These headphones may also become my go-to mobile headphones depending on the sound quality, so I'd really like for them to be closed with good noise isolation.

In this case, I'd be looking for:

  • Closed back
  • Easy to drive (Must)
  • Removable cable connected by 3.5mm jack (Must)
  • Decent sound stage
  • Good noise isolation (More important than sound stage)
  • Heavier bass (At least more prevalent than HD 598SE)
  • Could be portable
  • Price: $150 - $250 (+$30 for the BoomPro Mic)

Option 2: Bite the bullet and get a pure gaming headset. I've already looked at a couple options, and the ones that stand out to me are the Kingston HyperX Cloud 2, Sennheiser GAME ONE, and SteelSeries H Wireless. If anyone has any opinions on these three headsets, let me know.

In this case, I'd be more willing to try open headsets, as I'll probably get myself a closed, mobile-ready pair of headphones on a later date. I also won't be as picky about the sound, since these'll almost never be used for music. It will, though, decrease the price I'm willing to pay (SteelSeries H Wireless notwithstanding; for whatever reason, those things are calling to me.)

For this option, my requirements are:

  • Open/Closed
  • Easy to drive (Must)
  • 3.5mm jack (Must)
  • High mic quality
  • Decent sound quality
  • Heavier bass
  • Price: $100-$175

If anyone has any other suggestions, I'm definitely looking for more options, as long as it doesn't total to over $300.

If anyone is interested in the Game One [Amazon](Sennheiser Game ONE Gaming Headset - Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KK8ZLEC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_OV.2DbK2Z3KXW) has it for $107. Massdrop/Drop also has a collar version that is essentially the same headset but in all black for $100 + s/h. I can always give a referral if needed for $10 off.

Sennheiser Game Ones, they are on Amazon for $130.16 right now, and there is a lot of value there. I own them and they have great sound for the price, they are comfortable , and have a good sounding mic. The Game Ones were just posted in BuildPcSales. Amazon has a great return policy so I’d grab these and compare them to whatever headset you choose. I think you’ll find they outperform a stand alone headset on console and aren’t too shabby on PC as well. They are usually $144.

There are some headsets made by brands that do proper headphones like sennheiser, beyerdynamic and audiotechnica. You should maybe take a look at the Sennheiser game one's or game zero's if not these models maybe you should check out the beyerdynamic custom game headset. If you somehow don't find something you like from brands like these and want a normal gaming branded headset you could get something from hyperx. Hyperx headsets tend to be better than the other gaming brands and usually are just rebranded models from other companys. For example their cloud model is a rebranded takstar pro 80 headphone. Also, you could buy a cable with a microphone and just replace the stock cable from headphones that have a removable cable.

Edit: The sennheiser PC37X made in collaboration with Massdrop might also be a good option for you.

The Sennheiser Game One have great sound but poor noise isolation due to being open-back, good option if you’re not in a noisy environment or somewhere where noise leakage will bother others. At lower prices, the Kingston HyperX Cloud II and Corsair HS60 are ever-popular. The Kingston Cloud II and Cloud Flight are supposed to be pretty similar aside from the latter being wireless.

u/Zergom · 1 pointr/bapcsalescanada

If you have a higher budget, I'd recommend these or these. I have the predecessor to the PC373 (the PC363d) bought in June of 2014, still going strong. They sound amazing (I think the drivers are similar to the HD 598, or the HD 558), and the mic is fantastic. Build quality has also held up perfectly. Current pricing is all time low, but still not cheap.

I dig into some benchmarks for headsets 'Gaming' (microphone incorporated) I have a budget of 150€-170€

I'm between: https://www2.razerzone.com/es-es/gaming-audio/razer-blackshark

and

https://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-GAME-ONE-Gaming-Headset/dp/B00KK8ZLEC/ref=sr_1_3?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1497974144&sr=1-3&keywords=headset%2Bwith%2Bmicrophone&refinements=p_36%3A10000-17000&th=1

My biggest concert is that the Razer ones is a model from 2012 but very recommended and i'm really happy with all my Razer hardware. Also the Sennheiser have better specifications and excel in the music studio, I've read that they can't use 7.1 on games...

I'm between my fidelity to Sennheiser and Razer. If anyone have a better suggestion i'm open =D .

Thanks you.

I just bought Sennheiser Game one. After looking around for something good. I looked at a HE-400s as well, but while I'd get much much much better quality it'd be more than 2 the price, since I also have to buy something like a ModMic v4 since HE-400s doesnt come with a microphone.

now I haven't received my Game One yet, but a lot of people says that they are very comfy and great sound and have a very good microphone, for being on a headset.

I'd recommend that you at least look at some reviews of it :)

Personally, neither...I bought both headsets with intent on returning one after testing. I thought both were subpar. I ended up buying the Sennheiser Game One to try next and it is the best headset I have ever owned for gaming. Returned the original headsets and kept the Astro Mixamp to use with it.

I am an audio engineer by trade and the Sennheiser Game One blows the others away as far as sound quality is concerned, and I would also say they are more durable AND more comfortable. I am sure closed-back model is fine (Game Zero I think?), but I prefer open for gaming as you can hear yourself better when you are talking to teammates on a mic.

Sennheiser GAME ONE Gaming Headset - Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KK8ZLEC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_7xj0Bb6VV92JK

Flip mic to mute, volume dial on right ear cup, comfortable. This is the wirecutter's upgrade pick for gaming headsets. I've been using it for about 18 months and the quality is jarring compared to when I use my friends Astro A40s. Both the microphone quality and the sound quality of the Sennheiser is leaps and bounds better than their Astro headset.

I personally recommend it. (The game One is an open headphone and the game Zero is a sound isolating closed headphone design. I prefer open headphones because of the wider soundstage and better [for me] perception of directional sound. Others may prefer the isolation effect that closed headphones give. Otherwise, the Game One and Game Zero are same.)

u/onrul · 1 pointr/ZReviews

I'm a huge fan of the Sennheiser Game One. I've had mine for a couple years. The build is plastic, but it's very thick and durable. These headphones are very comfortable, I'd say 9/10 in comfort. They are based on the Sennheiser HD 558 headphones so you can expect the same audio quality, you're paying $40.00 for a volume knob and a built in mic that mutes when you push it up - these features are worth it for me. If you're looking for a closed back headphone, there's also the Game Zero.

u/jingqian9145 · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

Anything can be a "Reasonable Price" A rich audiophile thinks the Sennheiser Orpheus is an reasonable price. However my suggestion is to not get a headset if you plan to enjoy your audio.

Grab a decent headphones a mic combo.

Sennheiser HD598 & Modmic Combo.

However only one headset I can recommend

Sennheiser Game One because It's the HD598 with a mic slap on it. It's the cheaper option as well but the HD598 sounds subjectively better imo.

u/olbaze · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

Honestly, at 100-150€, you're best off not upgrading. The obvious upgrade path would be something like Antlion's Modmic and Sennheiser HD598. The Sennheiser Game One is also a good choice. Whether that's worth the upgrade, I can't say.

The wireless is your biggest bottle neck: Good wireless microphones just aren't a thing outside of pro gear. You could get a desk mic like an Audio Technica AT2020 or a Blue Snowball and a pair of wireless headphones, sure. But even there you're sacrificing audio quality for the wirelessness.

u/xXiDominateXx · 1 pointr/buildapc

I think you should get the 1070. As for headphones I would recommend getting either the HyperX Cloud 2 (I have these headphones and love them), the Sennheiser GSP 300, the Sennheiser GAME ZERO or Sennheiser GAME ONE (the game zero is closed back and the game one is open back).

>I have a N6. It works well. I don't use the phone clip at home because I need to charge it every few hours so I use a pair of cheap headphones

How do use headphones with a device like N6? Do you just put the headphones can / cup over the N6 device?

Do you think a pair of headphones like these would work clearly for you?

Would I have to buy the phone clip or is that something my mom's insurance can provide for her? Or can her insurance possibly provide her with the N7?

With the N7 the phone clip is not necessary right? It has the phone clip functionality already built in?

u/HereSoIDontGtSpoilrs · 1 pointr/techsupport

Best you could do is probably get some open back headphones. If the volume is too high though you still might not be able to hear it. Google "open back gaming headset". Or you could get open back headphones and then add a mic attachment.

Open back headphones allow noise to come through whereas closed back will block outside noise.

Here's an example.

Cheers to you and yours man. That's cool. My wife hates video games.

Headsets. I'd 100% be confident in telling you that you'd enjoy headsets more than any stereo setup you figure out.

Some headsets are closed back and have good sound isolation from outside sounds but don't pipe your voice back into your ears. These can be odd to get used to bc it's hard to hear yourself talk. Wired with good mic. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KK8ZLEC

With headsets you pretty much have to decide up front weather you want wired or wireless though(to the PS4). Sometimes a mix amp or heaphone amp can really improve some headsets as well.

I know you say the cords bother you, but hear me out.

I have a Sound Blaster Z, which comes with a mic that sits on top of my monitor. I never notice it, and I don't see any wires. I use the Sound Blaster Z to power my Sennheiser 598 headphones.

My setup is expensive, but it is also amazing. There are cheaper alternatives. The Sennheiser 558 headphones are 100 dollars, though you'd still need a small mic like the one that comes with the Sound Blaster Z.

Sennheiser does make headsets. This one is (if i recall correctly) the 558 headphones with a mic attached for you.

If that is also too expensive I can leave you with this advice. Get yourself a pair of open headphones and a mic like the one that comes with the Sound Blaster Z. Open headphones are better for gaming than closed headphones / noise canceling headphones. Open headsets have a much larger "Sound Stage" compared to closed. The "Sound Stage" is how big the area appears to be that the sounds are coming from. Open headsets with large sound stages allow you to better pin-point where a sound is coming from. This allows you to much more easily tell that the footsteps you hear you coming from your 5 o'clock and that player is 20 yards away, for example.

The only time a headset is better closed than open is if you live in a very loud house/apartment, you live in a college dorm and don't want your roommate to hear your games/music, or you plan to use the headset in public at a library or on a bus. If you are buying strictly for gaming, open is the way to go.

Most headsets you can buy at retail shops are closed. This is a trend that started maybe 5-6 years ago when eSports were getting bigger. The pros play in tournaments with closed headsets because they need to block out the sound of the crowd. People want the same gear their favorite pro uses, so suddenly open headsets disappeared from retail shops.

The three Sennheiser products I linked are all open headsets.

u/-Wingman- · 1 pointr/headphones
  1. Stay away from Tritton. Like, forever.

  2. If the A40 advertises Xbox on it, then it's likely the one that comes with the little device that plugs into the controller. That device won't work with a PS4, but you could always just plug the A40 right into the controller with the PS4. You might lose volume functions that aren't software-based, but I'm not sure.

  3. For that price range, you should buy these instead. Better audio, better mic, and they work well with PS4. https://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-GAME-ONE-Gaming-Headset/dp/B00KK8ZLEC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1469952073&sr=8-1&keywords=Sennheiser+Game+One

it sort of depends on your budget. you can get a really nice "gaming headset" like the beyerdynamic mmx300 but it is $350 https://www.amazon.com/Beyerdynamic-Second-Generation-Multi-Media-Headset/dp/B06WGVJ9GY

that is a nice pair of real headphones with a mic already attached and not the typical "gaming" headset you would get from logitech or razer or whatever. beyerdynamic is a quality headphone company. logitech makes good mice and peripherals. they are not a headphone or audio company.

there is also the sennheiser game one, at $165. which like beyerdynamic is an actual headphone/audio company. so you are starting with a much better pair of headphones https://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-GAME-ONE-Gaming-Headset/dp/B00KK8ZLEC/ref=pd_lpo_vtph_23_tr_t_2

i own the mmx300 but no longer use them. they were great for years, but i wanted to switch to a pair of open headphones so i could better hear music playing while i was gaming. the mmx300 are closed so they isolate more. i switched to phillips fidelio x2 headphones with an antlion mod mic and it works great. the headphones are super comfortable and i can detach the mic easily when not needed. if you think you want to do anything else with the headphones other than gaming i would definitely recommend getting a good set of headphones and an attachable mic.

again, your budget for it sort of determines what would be recommended here.

Moving to Israel in September. I do care about keeping up appearances. Ideally I would like the gear to compliment my daily attire. If not, I can work around it.

  • BUDGET: $400USD.

  • Source: Primarily my Galaxy S7 and my WM-FX195 for my coveted cassette collection. On rare occasions Asus Xonar DSX 7.1.

  • Requirements for Isolation: Open over-ear. But I'm worried about possible external noise.

  • Will you be using these Headphones in Public? Walking around the streets of Israel, while traveling via boat to Israel.

  • Preferred Music: I primarily listen to Classical orchestra, Piano, Classic Rock (lots of live concerts), Jazz, Blues, Klezmer, on rare occasions This type of Electronic and specific Funk.

  • Preferred Type of Headphone: full-sized.

  • Location: USA (currently).

  • What would you like to improve on from your set-up: I'm a relatively inexperienced audio guy. I have read a lot and have the understanding but lack experience. I'm moving out of gaming and into other areas. In short I have no current setup.

  • Past headphones: The only ones of note are these yet no need since I am quitting gaming for a couple years at least.

  • Preferred tonal balance: Detailed treble. Adequate bass with upper and lower mid range frequencies. Natural and realistic midrange. Sense of spaciousness, decent depth. Clear distinction between instruments. Decent emphasis on vocals.

  • Other: On an appearance note I typically dress in black suite with a white shirt, occasionally using a vest instead of a coat. Please no wireless capabilities. I don't mind bulky... to an extent.

I would appreciate any advice and recommendations. I was already advised on a few and I'm leaning towards the Audio-Technica ATH-R70x, but somehow find the Sennheiser HD 600 alluring.

    Option 1: Headset w/ Mic

I don't necessarily need a headset w/built in mic, I'm aware of the modmic option, but if I'm not mistaken the G4ME ONE essentially an HD 558 just with the added microphone which will be very nice for me due to how much I'm on vent/Teamspeak when I game. I don't see the point in investing much more than 150-200 for an all-in-one because as I understand the quality doesn't go much higher from here anyways.. so to get more quality I'd look at option 2 and by that point it seems to be very costly to compete with the HD 558. And since I can get the ONE used for 150-50=$100 that seems like a great option.

    Option 2: Headphone + Soundcard OR DAC/AMP + ModMic

Unless someone knows something that I don't, this is where I'd be spending more than the $200, and hopefully only if it's actually going to be 50-100% better. I considered the AT-ADG1's in option 1 above, but I don't believe they offer $100 more in value over the G4ME ONE (White/red new is $200)- please correct me if I am wrong.

Here are of the products I considered for option 2:

  • HD 598
  • DT 990
  • AKG Q701 (Or K701 - but I like the Q design)

I am assuming I'll need to add another 100-200 on top of the headphone to drive them.

If there are any options that let me gradually upgrade/add on the DAC/Amp I'd consider that, but my impression is that certain headphones need to be driven properly from day 1. I realize that any headphones, even the G4ME ONE would benefit from a better amp or soundcard, but if I go for them then I don't plan to get another soundcard or external DAC/AMP anytime soon.

Any advice/thoughts on this or anything else would be greatly appreciated. Sorry for the wall of text. :D

Would something like this fit within your budget?

My brother uses the Sennheiser Game one on his xbox and he says its very good for both audio and mic quality. I recommended him the headset as i own the PC360 model Sennheiser and its almost the same exact headset. The game one comes with 2 cords to attach to a controller/phone (single combo 3.5mm jack) or the standard headphone+mic 3.5mm jack most pcs use.

It does go on sale and hits under $140. If you are using an astro id imagine you dont have a problem spending over $100 for a headset (astro is a scam imo. its like 'beats' or 'turtlebeach' headphones. they are overpriced garbage)

Sennheiser GAME ONE Black $130 - back ordered 2-4 weeks

Sennheiser GAME ONE White $150

Kingston HyperX Cloud II - $98

Kingston HyperX Revolver - $108

Astro A40 - $150

Of those I'm partial to the Sennheiser GAME ONE's, and the Astro A40. I've used exclusively Sennheiser headphones for the last 7 years and have loved them. The GAME ONE's are open back though so you will get a little less bass but a more open sounding sound stage. The Sennheisers are also far better for music than anything from Kingston, Razer, Logitech, or SteelSeries. Also in my experience, Sennheiser headphones are always quite comfortable. The mic quality is also very good on the GAME ONE.

The Astro A40's are just really good all around. Good sound quality, good mic quality, good overall build quality. Very solid option around the $150 range.

If it were me buying it, I would go with the Sennheiser GAME ONE, my second choice would definitely be the Astro A40's though. The SteelSeries Siberia 350 hasn't been getting the best reviews from actual users. I don't put as much stock into professional reviews because they never account for longevity of the device and are based more on technical specs than actual real world use.

It really depends on what your priorities are though. If you're concerned more with the sound quality, the Sennheisers or Astro A40's are the way to go. If you're more interested in extra features, some of the other brands like Corsair, Logitech, and SteelSeries will have some other features (like RGB lighting for example).

These are the one's I'm currently using.
Overear, comfortable, replaceable cable, adjustable mic, solid audio, and relatively cheap.

i'am no headphones enthusiast at all but for a gaming headset these are what i would recommend:

Sennheiser PC37X: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=spktoWVAlTU

Logitech G PRO X: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_8nBLX9rDWI&t=215s

or you could buy the 58x jubilee and install a modmic on it, and get a better sound quality from more on the professional side headphones and a much better mic quality: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oZtGFdurGmU

and here is a similar headset to the Senhheiser PC37X : https://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-GAME-ONE-Gaming-Headset/dp/B00KK8ZLEC/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=sennheiser+game+one&qid=1562796435&s=gateway&sr=8-3
