Out of curiosity, is a 550W PSU, gold certified or otherwise, recommended for the specs listed above?
I have basically the same model PSU but EVGA running an i5-8400, 8 GB RAM at 3000 mHz, and a 1060 6GB. I know it's more than enough for what I'm running, but would that be the case for OP's specs?

u/A_Neaunimes · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

It's not really a good PSU for the price.

Notes:

Moved down to the Ryzen 1600. It's the same chip as the 1600x, with the upside of coming with a stock cooler, and the downside of marginally worse overclocking ability. $300 for the 1600x is a good price though, so if you'd like the extra 100-200MHz in overclocking ability, pair the 1600x with a CRYORG H7. I think the money is better used elsewhere, though.
The board you selected has on-board wifi, it's cheaper to purchase the board + wifi card separately (although it's slightly less cool). This is the wifi card I'd suggest.
A slightly faster set of RAM (also marginally cheaper)
For an extra $100 you can get the GTX 1080.
Included an alternate case just for your reference.
The Power Supply is super overkill in terms of wattage, but at $120 after Mail-in rebate its a good value. If you'd rather not submit Mail-in rebates, my next choice would be the EVGA G2 550W.
Included a different monitor just as reference. This one is much more expensive, but it's 1440p (pretty!). Ultimately, the choice of monitor is something that is hard for an outsider to decide upon.
Also, you don't have to buy Windows. A legally installed unpaid for Windows loses very little in terms of functionality vs paid for Windows.

Overall, this build is actually several hundred cheaper than what you've selected, with the only sacrifice coming from your CPU (and a small sacrifice at that). The savings allowed you to move up to a faster graphics card, and gives you some room to potentially spend more on a monitor if you'd like.
u/TheMadDoc · 2 pointsr/buildapc

Now I don't know what your setup is, but unless you are running a dual GPU setup, I don't think you will need more than 500W

Honestly, I would just get the SuperNova G2 550W, should be better than those two

https://www.amazon.com/EVGA-SuperNOVA-Modular-Warranty-220-G2-0550-Y1/dp/B0106RDI3W/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1480084447&sr=1-1&keywords=EVGA+G2+550W

That beeing said, both are good, can't go wrong either way

u/CreepyRider · 2 pointsr/buildapc

While in the price bracket you may be looking to pinch an extra buck or two, I'm going to put a few other suggestions that I've had good luck with that are the same price just so people have options. You aren't wrong at all, most people buying a 750 dollar PC are not going to be overclocking or pushing their system at all and are going to be just fine with a CX series. Never hurts to have some quality options at the same time though.

Option 1

Option 2

Option 3 Not enough information yet, will update when more info is released.

edit: Just saw your edit, If you pick up a CX for less than 40, go for it. That's not a terrible deal.

u/Raffles7683 · 2 pointsr/buildapc

Yes, it would be, but I'd go for this one instead, if you can pull the cash together:

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0106RDI3W/?tag=pcpapi-20

It's fully modular, so therefore good for managing all those cables... Plus it's EVGA, so it'll provably survive a nuclear apocalypse.

u/rcioffe · 2 pointsr/buildapc

Go for a gold PSU over bronze. https://www.amazon.com/EVGA-SuperNOVA-Modular-Warranty-220-G2-0750-XR/dp/B0106RDI3W?th=1

Otherwise, that's a nice build for the price.

u/DisFigtree · 2 pointsr/buildapc

CPU - This is a perfectly fine CPU for gaming and there isn't any reason to change it.

Motherboard - This is a solid board, and it's a plus that it's a Gigabyte board. Make sure to keep in mind that this board doesn't support SLI, so if you ever plan on getting a second GPU you should go a different route.

Memory - You should seriously just get the cheapest RAM you can find since you can't utilize XMP. RAM is the only computer components that is actually created equal, other than manufacturers with high failure rates.

SSD - Don't get that SSD. It's faster than any HDD out there, but at the same time slow for an SSD. I know it's tempting to cheap out on a few parts like the SSD, but it's certainly worth it to spend a bit more. I'd recommend this SSD.

HDD - Do you really need 2TB of storage? I don't hear many bad things about Hitachi, but I still think you'd be better off with a Western Digital HDD. If you really do need/want the 2TB hard drive, it looks like it's quite a nice deal for that price and I wish you luck with it.

GPU - You're gaming at 1080p60 and expecting "high settings". This card is overkill. Do yourself a favor and get an RX 480 or a GTX 1060. On the other hand, if you don't plan to upgrade for 4-5 years, the GTX 1070 is perfectly fine. As far as aftermarket cards go: For AMD, I'd recommend PowerColor/XFX and for NVIDIA I'd recommend EVGA.

Case - Solid case, but I think you could stand to spend a bit more for a Fractal Design Define R5 if you decide to buy a less expensive GPU. I'd recommend it anyways, but the less you spend the better, I assume.

PSU - At this point, I recommend no PSU other than this one. The PSU is a very important PC part that you shouldn't cheap out on, and this PSU in particular is one of the best.

u/ColHannibal · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

Ditch the 1080p monitor, go 1440p and get this PSU instead.

u/SeKiGamer · 2 pointsr/buildapc

it's cheap for a 750W atm (plus I had the link open). You can also get this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0106RDI3W/ref=twister_B01LXKQ07C?_encoding=UTF8&th=1

But it's also not much cheaper.

u/itbefoxy · 2 pointsr/nvidia

Then I would replace the psu but you could keep it and try running a 1060 off it.

Something like this evga series or this seasonic series will do the job nicely.

u/Aozi · 2 pointsr/pcgaming

Nvidia recommends at least a 400 watt PSU for GTX 1060, it's generally a good idea to go a bit above that. I'd recommend a 500-600 watt PSU.

A good option for example is the 550W EVGA SuperNova. It's powerful enough, reliable, efficient and EVGa has excellent customer service and warranty in case of any issues. Another good option is the 500W PSU that /u/Daedus already recommended.

u/SShift · 2 pointsr/buildapc

1)Also, is the iGPU capable of playing any type of game? like lowest setting, etc..

2)This and this are the two psus im looking at. They are probably way better being a gold rating and modular. Im thinking about the GS one since its suppose to be pretty quiet. Which one do you think is better?

3)Sure thing :P

u/DZCreeper · 2 pointsr/buildapc

Throw in a GTX 1070, that should be all you need.

That is the current one I'm using for my build, not sure if it's in your price range but almost any PSU from EVGA, & Seasonic is good. Read all the reviews on the PSU you plan to buy. remember this powers your whole system if it dies you want one that can do the minimum damage if any at all to everything else so most of your research should be on the PSU. Also Pcpartpicker.com you can set up your build and post it easier then typing it all out.

u/TransientBananaBread · 1 pointr/buildapc
  1. The H7 is a fine budget cooler and will handle a light OC just fine.

  2. A 550W PSU is more than enough for your build. You can pick up a Supernova G2 for a couple bucks more.

  3. You can install Windows using a flash drive. You do not need a DVD drive to do it. Your case choice also doesn't have an optical drive slot, that's why you had to add it as a custom part.

  4. You can pick up a faster version of the RAM you chose for about $8 more.

u/notaneggspert · 1 pointr/buildapc

Whats the difference between the EVGA GS, G1, G2?

I think my EVGA GS 550w PSU keeps killing my motherboards/HDDs/SSDs. I posted this last night didn't get much response.

Since the RMA turn around for EVGA's PSU's is 6-12 days I need to just buy a new one off Amazon Prime so I'll have it Thursday. Should I get the G1, G2, or a 550W g2.

Is there any chance EVGA will cover the damaged parts? I'm out over $300 after all this which I really hadn't budgeted for when I planed my rig.

u/somuchflannel · 1 pointr/buildapc

Some links to past similar answers for anyone who finds this searching around for similar questions and finds this empty post:

> H170 vs. Z170

Most people seem to vouch for H170 for budget builds, Z170 only for overclocking, I guess that's all there is to it.

> DDR4 RAM Speeds

https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/comments/4di8w4/will_this_ram_work_with_my_motherboard/

  • Says an H170 supports XMP for memory overclocking, which my listed mobo manual also says it supports. So higher speed RAM can be used at it's rated speed. (I also saw contradictory posts but I'm inclined to trust the mobo manual)

    > G4400 vs. an I3

    https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/comments/3ysv14/build_help_how_important_are_cpu_tiers_for_gaming/
  • Deep info on CPU tiers, I think it trends towards skipping Z170 on budget builds. But also a lot of (mis?)information on I5 being necessary for gaming despite all the benchmarks saying otherwise.

    > 1 stick 8gb vs 2 sticks 16gb

    https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/comments/1fcs77/discussion_ram_single_vs_dual_channel_speed/
  • Looks conclusive that 1 8gb stick is the way to go, w/ few people saying you need 16gb unless video editing or similar.

    > Seasonic 550 versions

Looking at the price discrepancy I ended up going with.... the EVGA 550 G2. Fully modular = fewer cables, price is cheaper, and seems to be highly rated AND it's made by Seasonic anyway. /shrug
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0106RDI3W

Still feeling like I'm buying in the face of a lot of conflicting info, but nothing sounding risky enough to stop me from trying.

    Final build list:
    http://pcpartpicker.com/list/cTYNqk
Note PCPP is missing the EVGA G2 so the part list shows the newer (worse) EVGA GS 550.

I would go with your third build.

Don't use the Drevo SSD. Get either a Samsung 960 EVO or 970 EVO M.2 for one of the motherboard's M.2 slots as the operating system drive. Than a Crucial MX500 500GB M.2 SATA SSD for the other motherboard m.2 slot and use it for Lightroom. Add 2 1TB Samsung Barracuda hard drives. One for photo and project storage the other for all other storage. As for the case an Antec Atlas https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1121234-REG/antec_server_chassis_atlas_chassis.html?ap=y&c3api=1876%2C91442436602%2C%2C&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIwuz48f-s2gIVzrbACh3cGgEREAQYAyABEgLvZfD_BwE Very affordable, plenty of room, good airflow, well made. I would reccomend an EVGA Power Supply. They're known for their build quality and warranty. This is the one I'd specifically recommend for your build.

If you want to pay a little more, it may be nice to get a fully modular (meaning detachable cables) power supply. If you do, I recommend this one. I actually have this unit in my build right now and it's excellent!

u/La_Campeon · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

I'm not super technical when it comes to this stuff but I had a lot of help when building my PC. I use this power supply myself; it's extremely well reviewed and I haven't had any problems with it whatsoever.

It's an EVGA Supernova 550 Gold plus rated power supply.

u/Taickyto · 1 pointr/techsupport

yes sorry, it's this one and it is 1.5 years old

u/patrikstar24 · 1 pointr/buildapc

Yes, you will need a new PSU, as using an adapter introduces the risk of fire not only of the PSU itself, but of the cable as well.

Here are 2 suggestions for upgrades:

for something that is cheap, but still a good design for the price, this 500W Bronze-Rated PSU is a good start: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817438012&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-PCPartPicker,%20LLC-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=

For about $20 more, you can get this Gold-Rated
PSU that is excellently designed and will last you a long time: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0106RDI3W/?tag=pcpapi-20

*Bronze-rated means 80% efficiency at ~50% load (250W in this case), and Gold-rated means 90% efficiency at ~50% load.

u/Alunduyn · 1 pointr/buildapc

R9 380, not 390. PCPartPicker points me around 350W full build, so I guessed 450 were enough. How about something like this? Still too much entry level? Should get the Gold Rated?

About DDR4, I'm not that convinced. Prices go up quite a lot with DDR4 capability, how about performance? Really that much worth? Modules should be there (HDMI port + USB3, if that's what you mean).

u/GideonD · 1 pointr/techsupport

A 550 would be enough but it wouldn't hurt to step up the wattage a bit so you have plenty if you decide to upgrade. I'd at least go for 650 just to have the extra juice available if ever needed.
550w. Just make sure you get a G2. Some of their other lines are not as good.

I have quite strange problem with power supply unit.
FYI, my PSU is EVGA SuperNOVA G2 Amazon link

Basically, I got back from school and tried to turn on my PC and nothing happened. Since the PC itself won't start, I assumed that it had to do with power supply.

So I decided to turn off and back on the PSU, but still nothing happened. Strange thing is that on my motherboard, POWER LED light lights up once and immediately turns off itself when I turn my PSU on.

My PSU is only 9 months old too. So I don't think it should get toasted this early.

Do any of you guys have idea about what's going on my PC and PSU?

Great motherboard for your build ! Best in class for the b450 platform IMO.

Few suggestions:

Cheaper yet more than decent keyboard

Take a safer/better SSD from a reputable brand: At least a DRAMless drive like a Crucial BX500 or a Kingston A400.

Here is a better, safer PSU for long term: the EVGA Supernova G2 550W

The stock Ryzen 2600 cooler is more than fine unless you plan on overclocking your stuff. You could save a little bit there instead of getting a single-fan AIO solution.

For the RAM, I can't really speak as I've never looking into 2x4Gb kits. Somebody else could review that.

u/JazzBassMan · 1 pointr/buildapc

Well if you want something that will be good for taking into a new build then I would look into an EVGA G2 unit. They are my personal favorite, but others will have different suggestions.

Yes
XFX's powersupplies, as those are made in the same factories as Seasonic.

Seasonic arguably makes the best powersupply units in the world, I have nothing but praise for their units.
I've worked a lot of times with the G -Series 550watt and that would be perfect for you. It's quite a bit more expensive than your current PSU, I'm always a big advocate to spending a good chunk on a PSU as it's a really important component.

this XFX TS shares tons of components with the Seasonic units.

EVGA's Supernova G2 550watt also gets a lot of praise.

I'd go with one of those models. Buy good PSU now and have nothing to worry about for years to come :)

u/worromoTenoG · 1 pointr/Amd

500w is ample.

The problem you have here is that those power supplies are garbage. Why pair a $300 GPU with a $30 power supply? You'd be better off dropping $250 on a GPU and $80 on a PSU.

You want something along these lines:

Get a high quality 550W one instead. The one you listed has overkill wattage which can (rarely) cause instability, but it's also from some shitty brand and barely gets the 80+ rating. This is the kind of PSU that would fry your system just because it decided so. I recommend getting this one

G2 series.

Specific unit.

Price on Amazon (vs Corsair).

MSRP (vs Corsair).

Anyway, I'm just going to drop it. You'll read that as "you're right and I'm wrong" but you already thought that. I'd rather not argue with someone who considers anonymity to be an excuse for rudeness.

Using HWiNFO64, I just wanted to check the temps after my new build was complete. I noticed my temps for the motherboard may possibly be a bit higher than normal:

However, I'm not too sure. Just wanted to check. Temperature 4 reads in the 90 Celsius range... what is Temperature 4 and is that a normal temperature?

You could spend another $20 and throw in another 8GB of RAM, and spend about $10 dollars and get a fully modular PSU (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0106RDI3W/?tag=pcpapi-20), instead of a semi-modular.

The rest looks nice.

Here and here

Go with the motherboard/ram combo that /u/paperwing recommended. Both are a nice choice. If you want more features get a h170 mobo.

The EVGA G2 series seems to be a really solid design. It's a season if design with some nice fan functions that make it super quiet. The 1060 and current gen i5's and everything else in your build are super low power nowadays. You could honestly go with a 450-550w PSU easily. Here's a link to the EVGA g2 550w that I just ordered for a similar build but with a 1070 instead of the 1060. Not sure how much more it is compared to yours in £ but it's a nice PSU. I'd personally recommend gold ratings as they'll save you electricity costs in the long run.

I'd get this psu. Typically, the G2 and GS series are the best. Even though it's only 550w, that should be more than enough to power a rig with your specs

Depends on how much you'd be willing to pay, most are under 100$ so in that case I'd recommend the EVGA SuperNova 550W G2,Fully Modular, 80+ gold efficiency , and has a perfect 10 on JonnyGURU:https://www.amazon.com/EVGA-SuperNOVA-Modular-Warranty-220-G2-0550-Y1/dp/B0106RDI3W/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1483940000&sr=8-3&keywords=evga+supernova+G2
