There is a sci-fi book, Far-Seer, in which the main species lives on a tidally locked moon around a gas giant. But their continent is on the far side from the gas giant. When they developed ships and sailed far enough they found the gas giant visible from the other side of their world and called it The Face of God. So their religion involves a pilgrimage to see it. Zany antics ensue.
The book is part of a series, allegories of the lives of people from the history of science. Rather kid's stuff as sci-fi goes though. But the species involved are dinosaurs, so that has some entertainment value.

If dinosaurs hadn’t gone extinct and had instead kept evolving to the point of sentience (not unlike our own), which species do you think would have made it to the top?
Reminds me of this
Check out the Far Seer series. Seriously an incredible read and it is not only about dinosaurs, but a great scifi series that incorporates some interesting themes.
