If your internet is bad then it's not going to work out very well for 2 TB of stuff. Anyway, look at BackBlaze.

For local storage I would suggest a mix of hard drives (not flash drives or SDD) and Blu Ray discs.

  • Keep some locally and some at someone else's place.
  • Rotate the rewritable media (HDDs).
  • Pick a backup schedule and stick to it (eg. once a month).
  • Check your backups periodically.

Use a software that can create recovery checksums along with the files and makes it easy to do the backups and to verify them. If they're easy to make/check you'll be a lot more enclined to do it.

Costs are pretty low. 2 HDDs of 2 TB, a spindle of Blu Ray blanks (Verbatim's a good choice), an external Blu Ray burner, an USB HDD adapter and a CD wallet, we're talking about $250.

Store the HDDs in the boxes they come in, they're usually great for it (they have a cardboard protection wrapping and a pack of silica gel inside), and away from strong magnetic sources. Do not store the Blu Rays on top of each other in the spindles, use CD wallets and keep them vertical.

You will have to clone the drive. Grab an SSD to USB adapter (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B077N2KK27/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_D2vwDbVJ7JGBD) plug it in and it will pop up just like a flash drive. Then use some type of free hard drive copy software (http://www.macrium.com/reflectfree.aspx). It might take overnight but I will copy and clone the whole drive over. Then you can pop it in and use it as your regular drive.
