So it's a "yoga mat" bag, though some yoga mat bags are *way* too wide. This is the one I ended up getting:

Not only is it super practical, it's like $14 so really cheap compared to bags that are advertised as needlework bags - sure, you don't get all the fancy inserts but I am perfectly happy with little baggies instead anyway.
There's a needlework site that sells t-shirts that say "crafting is my cardio" - I should make a patch saying "crossstitch is my yoga" :-)
