I've been trying to do a similar thing, so thank you for creating this thread, I shall keep my eye on it for others' suggestions.

Personally, there's a few books that I've been cycling through:

"Superfoods to Boost Your Mood" by Alexandra Massey and Anita Bean. It's a short book which explains the relationship between diet and mood and encourages you to make better food choices so you don't end up feeling sluggish and miserable. Not sure if it's a placebo effect, but most of the things seem common sense, I've tried the food plans and have felt more energetic, so it's a nice basic to dip into.

I'm currently working through "The Artists' Way" by Julia Cameron. So far, it's fantastic, it's a 'course' in how to regain your creativity and apply it both to every day life or to particular 'creative' paths (such as writing, painting and so forth).

I've only started reading "Women Who Love Too Much" by Robin Norwood. Much of it seems to (unfortunately) resonate with me, from what I can tell it explores imbalanced, destructive, or down right abusive relationships from the perspective that certain women seem to seek them specifically over 'nice guys'. I've not read enough of it to comment whether it's any good, but much of it makes sense, and I'm hoping it helps me learn to value myself more as not just as a woman, but as a person.

"Women Who Run With The Wolves" by Clarissa Pinkola Estes was recommended (and bought) for me, and I've been told that if I liked "The Artists' Way", I'd appreciate this one. I've only read the introduction and haven't picked it up yet, as far as I'm aware it talks about 'woman' as a spiritual entity, who lives through different stresses in modern society and still remains strong and multifaceted. I might be completely off the mark though, so best to use Amazon reviews for this one!

As for fiction, my favourite book has to be "The God of Small Things" by Arundhati Roy. It tells a devastatingly beautiful tale of a set of twins growing up in India with their mother and her stifling family. It explores themes of caste, social status, love, betrayal, family, childhood and bereavement. Its style is very strange at first but I think it makes it all the more powerful. Other books of the same ilk that I've enjoyed were ones by Toni Morrison, "Beloved" being one of the most famous though it's been years since I read them.

I'll close here, promise! Good luck on your search, hope you have a wonderful summer.
