But, yeah, this.

I recently bought a Vivoactive HR (VAHR); to me, this is the choice you make:

  • Vivoactive HR for $160USD new, or $210CAD for a "like new certified refurb";

  • Basic fitness band (Fitbit, Vivosmart HR etc) - step counter, maybe a heart-rate monitor - not much cheaper than a VAHR but way fewer features and many aren't waterproof;

  • high-end smart-watch/fitness tracker (Garmin Fenix series, higher-end Forerunners) - niiiiice but double to triple the price of a VAHR and, personally, I wouldn't use half the features.

    To me, the VAHR is the sweet spot. It obsoletes just about everything below it and the next jump up is way more expensive. Downside: they're not as stylish as some of the basic fitness bands, or the high end smart watches. (the Fenix line is gorgeous)
