Also a few good picture books on this subject that you might read at home or recommend to your son's teacher - Chester Racoon and the Acorn Full of Memories is one of the few children's books that specifically deals with the death of a classmate rather than an older relative or a pet; you might also take a look at Ida, Always, a beautiful story of a friendship between two polar bears, one of whom falls ill and eventually passes away. Gentle Willow is a metaphorical story about death featuring a tree and her woodland friends, and Tear Soup is another good one that's appropriate for all ages. I hope some of these can bring your son a bit of comfort in the days ahead.
