A 2070 is much slower than a 1080ti. You can get 2080's for $700 or less, and there's also the new Radeon VII which functionally matches 2080 and 1080ti performance for $700.

Examples of "cheap" 2080's:

Both the Radeon VII and RTX 2080 come with free game bundles if you buy new. So there's no reason to buy a 1080ti at the same price if you're looking at three cards with practically identical performance, and two come with $80-$120 of free games while the third comes with nothing.

The 2080 is essentially the same performance as a 1080ti but only has 8gb vram, and ray-tracing is a cool side-option.

Radeon VII is essentially the same performance as a 1080ti has 16gb of vram and no dedicated ray-tracing cores same as a 1080ti.

You can "future-proof" two ways: ray-tracing capability, or 16-gigs of vram.

I personally don't think ray-tracing on a 2080 is that impressive. The 2080ti seems to be the only RTX card with enough juice to consider future-proofed for ray-tracing, and only barely that. But Radeon VII is sold out everywhere atm.

Fry's has in-store weekend promotions, usually around 20% off for a single item. You can pick up a 2080 for around $600 if you both have a Fry's locally and they do the weekend promotions.

There is a RTX 2080 Gigabyte Windforce card for $700 on amazon at the moment. Not sure if its any better. Thought people would like to know.

(Should mention apparently this card is known to have artifact problems after a while.)

That shouldn't be difficult.

I am also still a bit up-in-the-air about which GPU to get. The one I posted above is the one LogicalIncrements seems to recommend, but there's also this Gigabyte one that has 3 fans for only $5 more. Or, would going for an RTX 2070 and upgrading the PSU be a better idea instead?

Thanks, /u/Sage3030. Was looking on Amazon for the GPU and saw this one, but could not readily determine the difference between that and what you linked aside from not changing color. Anything else noteworthy with that?

u/CrackenZap · 1 pointr/hardware

I don't see the price anymore, thanks folks who couldn't find the deal before it disappeared. Thanks for downvoting the truth as I saw it on my Amazon.com page for a blip in time because you velociraptors were jealous of the hamburger I wasn't even eating...

-_-

I am still seeing a regular RTX 2080 @ $699 however. https://www.amazon.com/Gigabyte-GeForce-Windforce-DisplayPort-GV-N2080WF3-8GC/dp/B07J5LCQNF/ref=sr_1_7?keywords=rtx+2080&qid=1550070744&s=gateway&sr=8-7

Which I see as; https://unsee.cc/fa93e38d/

thank you for this input!
The 2080 cards can be found at $100 cheaper:

I dont know what that extra $100 is getting me, but i feel wierd buying the cheapest of these high end cards, make sense?

This looks good

u/arnabcare21 · 1 pointr/LinusTechTips

For max performance, this RTX 2080 looks good.

https://www.amazon.com/Gigabyte-GeForce-Windforce-Graphics-GV-N2080WF3-8GC/dp/B07J5LCQNF/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=rtx+2080+super&qid=1564070172&s=gateway&sr=8-3

But if you want to save a hundred bucks for a little less performance, get a 2070 super.

Edit: The RTX 2070 super is currently out of stock, so the RTX 2080 looks good. Also, it looks like the NVIDIA website has better deals.

Synthetic: https://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-RTX-2080-vs-AMD-Radeon-VII/4026vs4035

Watch a couple youtube videos, Real world benchmarks show the radeon 7 is usually a couple fps behind the 2080

1.The radeon 7 is worse then a 2080 and a 2080 is a sliver worse then 1080ti.

2. The cost is expected to be around 700$ and its direct competitor is the 2080 which can be bought at around 700$...

So your paying the cost of a 2080 for something worse that also runs louder and hotter. What a deal.
