This one by Giovanni is great. You can find it at Target, Whole Foods, Walgreens. Natural ingredients and smells nice. Or pick something similar you like the smell of.
While your hair is still damp, work in a small amount, then comb your hair into the basic style/shape you like, and let it air dry. Don't mess with it until it's dry. Then you can loosen it up with your fingers a bit and you should be good to go. From there, if you add a small drop of oil it will get shiny and will stay closer to your head, but that's optional.
This will give it a natural, "I didn't spend hours doing my hair" look. In general, curly wavy hair likes moisture - so if you explore products, go towards creams/oils as opposed to gels, which can be really drying. Pastes/pomades can give you more sculpted looks but I find them to be kind of a mess to deal with everyday. As you probably already know, the ultimate styling tool for this kind of hair is a snug beanie. Sleeping on it and then putting on a beanie for an hour can really do the trick better than any product.
Have you looked at Giovanni weightless leave in? I've never tried it but the reviews are good.
Lol all the CG products I bought have protein that react good on my brother hair lot of curls, but mine stiff I don’t like to touch right now... what a luck you have 😭 , I chose shea moisture cause it’s difficult to find good products with a GC approved formula, giovanni leave in doesn’t contain any protein from what I heard, but makes my hair dry and frizzy, like I didn’t put anything on my hair, when it’s wet it looks good, I did read some reviews here that worked most for people with afro hair
