Picked this up almost ten years ago, and it was a pretty good, casual read.
Godzilla on My Mind is a decent read, however the most serious piece of kaiju cinema criticism that I'm aware of is A Critical History and Filmography of Toho's Godzilla Series. That book is pregnant with information.

I read a book while on my trip to Tokyo a few years back called Godzilla On My Mind that pretty much dedicates a majority of the book talking about why Godzilla's longevity and fame is interconnected with his ability to mold with the times as a pop culture figure. Fascinating read.
