I use the Sony Gold headset with my Switch, and it works great. While a headphone jack would be nice, I hope you realize that it's still possible to use wireless headphones with the Switch. You don't have to play with low or no volume!

u/FznCheese · 30 pointsr/PS4

Not sure what price range you were thinking but I love my PS Gold wireless headset. I've seen them go on sale quite often but I don't regret picking them up for $100 when they first came out. They would allow him to get his game on with the sound cranked without disturbing you and all the neighborhood. They also create virtual surround sound which is pretty cool. The ps4 comes with a little mono (single ear bud) mic that can plug into the controller but it is poor quality and not very comfortable. It works in a pinch but if your husband plans to do any voice chat for online games he will want a better mic than what comes with the ps4 and I've had no complaints using the ps gold headset.

It will also work with your pc. So if he's a pc gamer he can get double duty out of it.

The PlayStation wireless gold headset is the best headset I've owned for the exact situation you're in. They are wireless with pretty good battery life, plug and play on all three systems, and even though you have extra money, they are cheap.

I have this and this and I'd highly recommend them both.

I bought the gold headset and it is dynamite. Can't recommend it enough.

For VoG/Crota, not really. Especially if you grab a sherpa run, where someone explains all the mechanics for you.

Getting into KF, though, a mic is pretty necessary as a lot of communication is needed from all members.

I own the Playstation Headset which are falling apart but I refuse to get rid of. Save up and buy a pair. I'm sure the newer "gold" model are good as well, I just have no personal experience with them.

Get these, seriously:

Only $100 at the moment, 4.5 stars out of 5 stars from 1,347 customers at the time of this post.

It is wireless, has really good sound quality, 7.1 surround sound, good bass response. Not to mention there is the playstation headset app you can download after you purchase these, the app lets you download a sound preset into your headphones specifically tuned for Destiny. And you can do this for the most popular games on PS4.

I have these and absolutely love them, sound quality is great and my GF never complains as I have all the audio (chat and game audio) coming into the headphones instead of the external speakers.

This isn't really an issue, but more a tip if you get them, every now and then you might some sound issues or your buddies you're playing might say hey your mic keeps cutting out etc. Turn off the headset and unplug the little wireless usb receiver for the headset, plug it back in and turn the headphones back on and you're good to go.

i just plugged in my iphone ear buds that came with the phone and my friends say it sounds great. BUT if i WAS in the market for a PS4 headset I would get the Sony Gold Wireless headset, TONS of outstanding reviews + the PS4 has an app that lets you set sound profiles tailored to the game you are playing! the PS4 has an app that lets you

The Sony Golds seem to be the go to starter headsets on this sub. You can frequently find them at ~$60.

The Playstation Gold headset is awesome. Very comfortable, great battery life, great sound and the mic is excellent.

As mentioned you can't do 3D sound wirelessly

I like the Playstation Gold headset. It's incredibly comfortable and cheap. Noise canceling too. The sound is excellent, but then again I'm not an audiophile.

I found golds are really good, I got them on sale for $70 though. Normally they are $99.

Platinums are on $120 on amazon. They are better built and sleeker IMO. I'd compare the two online and see if the price hike is worth it to you.

u/colossalwaffle · 3 pointsr/residentevil

Might not be exactly what you want to hear, but I think you could greatly improve your experience by upgrading your headset. I have the Sony Playstation Gold headset which you can get on amazon for 70 bucks and I personally love it. I have been using it since I first got my PS4 years ago back when it was 100 dollars and I am still thrilled with it. The surround sound is really incredible and you can tell where everything is coming from. Works great if you are into playing multiplayer shooters as well, being able to hear enemy players can give you a huge competitive advantage you didnt even know you were missing out on.

u/moethelawn · 2 pointsr/PS4

Careful! I had to RMA my Gold Wireless Headset last week and I've just received a new pair from Sony under warranty. (First rep I talked to said the service center wouldn't cover physical damage so they wouldn't do anything, but the second rep I talked to RMA'd it no problem) The hinges are plastic and can crack and break. I used mine almost every day with care for 4 months and they still managed to break. Other people had similar issues (via poor reviews and the Official Playstation Forums). I was able to get it replaced under warranty, but I have a bad feeling they will eventually break again. The mic isn't the greatest either, so I'd honestly recommend looking somewhere else. It's too bad because the sound is amazing for the price.

I'm a fan of these PlayStation Gold Wireless Stereo Headset - Jet Black by Sony Computer Entertainment http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HVBPRUO/ref=cm_sw_r_udp_awd_QLtYub1N18YFZ

u/SoBeDragon0 · 2 pointsr/PUBATTLEGROUNDS

Completely agree with you on the FPS issues on most rigs.

I'm glad it's OK for you, but others have echoed the same issues on the volume levels of certain things. Not sure what kind of headset you use, but the only one I have access to (this one) sounds great, but the mix is awful. The majority of the game sounds fine, I expect gunshots to be loud, I can hear footsteps just fine, etc. The plane, the air when jumping, the rain, and the buggy sound deafening. It HURTS my ears when those sounds play...that's why I whine about it. If it just sounded bad, whatever, but I should not have a ringing in my ears because of these sounds. I don't want tinnitus.

u/reddit455 · 2 pointsr/gaming

couple friends and I have the Sony PS4 headset.. no complaints.
sounds pretty good considering there's no boom mic. you can just plug the dongle into a computer and it works there too. comes with a standard cable so you can use them with anything else too.

If you are willing to spend a little more (and I would argue it is worth it), then go w/ the Playstation Gold headset: http://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-Gold-Wireless-Stereo-Headset-4/dp/B00HVBPRUO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1451325330&sr=8-1&keywords=playstation+gold

Also, do you already have a nice pair of headphones for listening to music/movies/etc? If you do, you can buy a mic attachment. By far the cheapest option.

I would recommend the Playstation Gold headset though because it is wireless, and the sound quality is better than anything you will see in its price range.

LONG POST TO FOLLOW, TL;DR below

ive been looking into the apple earbuds issue for a while...

most people say it has do to with the way the wires inside are soldered to the jack. i went to the point to getting a brand new TRRS jack and soldering it, switching the ground and mic at the pole and sleeve. result, i can hear great through the headphones, mic will still work with the iphone (buttons no longer work), no annoying buzz, but other users can not hear me through the ps4 on either controller i use (which REALLY disappointed me after all the time i invested researching and waiting for parts).

as for the beats, interesting here also. i bought a digicam ds4 controller and my beats studio work great when wired to the controller through the 3.5mm jack. however, if i use the black controller that came with the console (SW:BF bundle, bought Nov 2015), the beats mic does not work. ive read that this is due to a hardware/software change that Sony came out with a while back.

i found the mic that came with the console is uncomfortable for long term use, but i like the mute switch. currently im using some old $7 generic off brand earbuds that are super comfy, but they are really bass-y and its difficult to hear voices clearly.

-\

i have many friends that use the PS4 Gold Headset and they seem to like it a lot

TL;DR
apple switches the ground and mic on their headphones. older DS4 might work with Beats.

Playstation Gold Headset

I got it back on Cyber Monday last year and use it almost everyday. Mostly on my PC (wearing them now). It uses a usb adapter so there is no annoying bluetooth to worry about. I have not used on my xbox one yet as I almost never play on that thing anymore, but it works with PC and PS4 with usb and then has a headphone jack and comes with an auxiliary cord to plug into your phone. Also has a built in microphone.

I HIGHLY recommend this headset. Just finished playing Hellblade on the PC using this headset and it was amazing. The virtual surround sound is perfect. Can't get much better than this one.

u/nizzy2k11 · 2 pointsr/playstation

PS gold or HyperX Cloud was $60 this weekend. i would get the cloud, much more versatile if its wired but i don't mind the wires since i keep my original PS headset plugged almost 24/7.

EDIT: the wired will also get rid of any wireless interference your current headset has and future headset might have as well.

Can't answer your question about Diablo as I have not played it.

Most games are downloadable, but I loved Second Son and First Light. SS lacks replay value, but I enjoyed playing it through twice, once good and once evil. First Light is short, but has massive replay value and the battle arenas are serious fun.

You aren't going to find a better headset in the price range than the PS Gold Wireless. I have one and it's better than a $200 pair of Tritons I owned on PS3.

The gold is currently $90 on Amazon, but I've seen it go down to $60-70 in the past.

u/GambitsEnd · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

I just use Sony's Playstation Gold Wireless headset. Found it for a good price a few years back.

Nothing amazing, but it works nicely and is easy to use.

Only two complaints: I don't like big headphones and I don't like my ears covered. But I put up with it because good quality smaller set are hard to come by.

u/SpyreFox · 1 pointr/PS4

Either the Sony Gold or Pulse Elite (if that's still around). I have the Pulse and friends have the Golds; they both perform very well and have good mics. While they are known to be fragile, I have not had that experience. But then I seldom rage quite and throw my headsets... Your mileage may vary.

Golds are US$85 at Amazon right now.

I use the ps4 wireless headset. What kind of headset do you have for ps4?

u/dustinjt · 1 pointr/gamingsuggestions

I have this one and love it. I used to be a Turtle Beach guy, but the quality of the plastic was so bad that they always inevitably broke. This has a thicker, better quality design to cut down on the risk of it snapping. The sound quality is great, and they're comfortable. Chat quality is also good, and I'm told my voice sounds crisp with this mic. The mic can be used with a wire between the controller or wireless. One downside to using the mic wireless is that you hear feedback, but that is drowned out eventually by game/video sound. You can also mute the mic if you're not using it and that gets rid of the feedback. The battery power is also not great, but acceptable.

u/DALinProgress · 1 pointr/Overwatch

I bought this one:

https://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-Gold-Wireless-Stereo-Headset-4/dp/B00HVBPRUO

It works great but the biggest problem is getting other people to listen to callouts or speak back. I've heard this is much better on PC which is one reason why I plan on playing there eventually.

But yes, sound plays a HUGE part of the game. Not just footsteps but dialogue that calls out big plays.

u/XcherokeeJ · 1 pointr/christianitygaming

I doubt there is anything on that price range good enough for this sub taste. Wireless will for sure cause a sensible drop in audio quality. I wouldn't recommend you wireless.

And yes, you can hear the difference between an affordable (100ish $) high quality headphones, and "normal" headphones. Perhaps not between 100 and 1000$, but you can have amazingly good headphones (which audio quality you will notice for sure) if you are willing to go wired.

But, if you insist, take a look at [Sony Wireless for PS4](PlayStation Gold Wireless Stereo Headset - Jet Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HVBPRUO/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_xGZzzbNN11YKR). Wireless with wired option (via USB transmitter), over the ear, more or less comfortable (don't expect wonders), two colors (black and white)... Sound is MEH, but you can't expect much more for this price bracket if you go wireless.

If you're looking for a good and cheap wireless headset, go with the Playstation Gold Wireless Headset (which is black unlike the name suggests). It lasts a while on a charge, the sound is fantastic as well as the mic built in, and super comfortable. It's about the best $60 headset you could possibly find. As for speakers, always go Logitech if you're sitting at a desk.

There aren't any solid solutions that will be both device agnostic and inexpensive, unfortunately. If you end up sticking with the X360, my favorite has been the XBox 360 Wireless Headset. Alternatively I had an extra set of Plantronics M Series earloop and eartips that I stuck onto the 'set and I find them to be much more comfortable / better at remaining in place. In all, with the optional kit, can run you from $25-$40 (sometimes you'll find a dirt cheap sale on the communicators somewhere, especially for like the MW3 edition). Personally I wouldn't go any higher in cost for an X360 solution, unless you go full-blown with an Astro Mixamp Pro and a favorite, high quality headset (expect to spend anywhere from $200-$500 altogether, or higher if you go really nuts).

A solid, dollar for dollar, PC / PS4 solution would be to get the SteelSeries v2 paired with an adapter like this ($60-$80 solution, depending). The DS4 has a 3.5mm jack that will support in-game sound as well as chat. The downside to it is it's a little underpowered. A lot of people don't have issues with it, but I'm rather picky. Thankfully the SteelSeries v2 only has a 32 Ohm impedance and an accompanying low-ish sensitivity level. So they don't take much to drive, but still -- to me the sounds for anything on the DS4 are a little muddy. To forego it, you would need to spend a little more money. Next step up, which works great for the PS4, would be the Sony Wireless Gold for around $80, but while it's a great solution for the PS4 I find it subpar on the PC. To get better sound out of the PS4 you would have to go the Astro Mixamp Pro route.

For PS4 you could also go the opposite direction in pricing and get the $12 PS Vita Earbuds and just shove those in the DS4 jack. While still an inline mic (will be picking up a lot of ambient noise) these are far better than what you can get out of the packaged earbud / mic with the PS4. If your soundcard doesn't support mic input via the headphone jack and only has the separate 3.5mm, can always use another adapter that goes in the reverse. Or just simply save up for a different headset for PC.

For 10 dollars more you could get these...they work on both PC and PS4 and have a built in mic

You won't regret purchasing a headset, especially for gaming

I use my Sony Gold Headphones pretty exclusively.

Otherwise I've got soundbar setups on my main TVs.

Personally since I have the PS4, I chose the Playstation Wireless Gold Stereo Headset paired with the Official Headset Adapter. The sound is great and it's amazingly comfortable. You're able to plug it into cell phones, computers, and anything with an auxiliary input! It runs for $99, but I suppose that for $79 you can get the official Xbox Headset too, though it only works with the Xbox One.

PS: Amazon prices are MUCH cheaper than retail prices just in case you didn't know :)

Will the new smash support wireless headsets for voice chat? There's no way this can't be a feature by now. I would love to own a custom smash bluetooth headset or like those huge headsets that sony. I wouldn't mind one of these.

Take a look at this Playstation headset, has a wireless USB adapter that works for the Switch as of a recent update, and it also comes with a cord to use it with a standard headphone jack.

Definitely not a problem with your PS4.

Your best bet is a pair of PS4 Gold Wireless headphones:

I have the Vengeance 2100 and these:

https://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-Gold-Wireless-Stereo-Headset-4/dp/B00HVBPRUO

Comparing the two, the 2100's bass just sounds boomy and uncontrolled. If you're deadset on something wireless with a mic, I think the Sony's are pretty good.

Another option is to get a pair of headphones, combine it with a removable mic and one of those mini bluetooth receivers for when you want to listen to music in your sun room.

I know this doesn't help your situation, but I just got the Sony Gold Wireless Headset for my PS4 and could not have been happier. They even have an app on the PS4 to set custom equalization for the headphones, with a preconfigured preset for Destiny. It's on sale for $20 off on Amazon right now too.

Yeah man, I live in apt building in Manhattan, also I have a career. My own hours I can normally play games are a few weeknights around 9pm to midnight. I will never be able to play with a killer speaker setup, my neighbors would hate me. I've been using headphones with gaming for years now, its great. I've some amazing setups over the years, but if you wanna spend only like 100 bucks, try the Sony Gold Wireless set. https://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-Gold-Wireless-Stereo-Headset-4/dp/B00HVBPRUO

I even starting using it in CSGO recently when I managed to lose my really nice ones, they work great for that.

I got these not too long ago for PS4. I LOVE them, mainly because of how easy they are to set up and use, but even for the price, the sound quality is real nice and they're comfortable. Mic is hidden, so it's not jutting out in front of your mouth, and it works on PC also (only for sound though, not chat unfortunately). I recommend, especially if you can find them on sale. I've seen them for as low as about $50.

I'm looking to pick up a headset so I don't have to use the single-ear earbud anymore.

Right now I'm between the HyperX Cloud Stinger and the PlayStation Gold Wireless. Has anyone gotten a chance to use either of these that can speak to the quality? What I'm looking for is mostly going to be comfort for long sessions and audio quality. Mic quality isn't the most important factor for me, but that'd be nice to head about as well.

I can't recommend Sony's wireless PS4 headset enough. Totally changed my Vive experience not having a headphone cable dangling around my back. Plug and play with Windows, connects over USB dongle. Under $100 anywhere.

I know some people may disagree with me on this, especially any audiophiles out there but I really like the Playstation Gold wireless headset.

only 100 bucks on amazon with a 4.5 rating from 1200 reviews? That's a pretty damn good score if you don't wanna take my word for it. I like the sleek look without a protruding microphone and the headset is over the ears and pretty comfortable. Obviously it works out the the box with the PS4 and PS3 with a simple USB dongle for the wifi paring. This dongle can be move to the PC for instant plug and play headphones as well.

If you don't mind a $280 price tag SteelSeries H are incredible. They are very comfortable even after hours of use. The battery life is about 20 hours and you get 2. You can keep one inside the wireless transmitter and when the battery in the headset gets low you just swap them. It has a retractable mic and very easy to use controls.

I used to have the PS golds they are the best headset for under $100, I would definitely recommend these. They are comfortable and sound great, that being said one of the hinges on mine broke after about a year.

This is what I use. Don't even own a PS3/4. Beautiful VSS 7.1 and wireless!

I'm a PlayStation gamer and I really love the PlayStation Gold headset. Had mine for two years and has been excellent the whole time. Comes with a USB stick and I'm not 100% sure if it's compatible with computers or not but I think it would be. Feel free to do your research but for sub 100 dollars and wireless, these are about the best value I think you'll find.
