A big part of what you're looking for is a food that doesn't contain grains, especially "poor" grains like corn and wheat. Science Diet dry contains both.
There's numerous "review' sites (CatFoodDB seems like a decent one), but in general "higher protein and less grains" is a decent start.
My idiot fuzzballs get fed Earthborn, which is somewhat pricey but is roughly on par with Science Diet (compare Science Diet Adult Chicken with Earthborn Holistic Wild Sea Catch, roughly $2.18/lb versus $2.28/lb for Earthborn). It's still got pea and pea fiber, but by my understanding while those aren't desirable ingredients for a cat food (they're still effectively filler, after all) they are not as undesirable as wheat/corn/rice. Someone feel free to chime in with corrections on that, I'm hardly a feline nutritionologist.
