I tend to smoke the green variety in my house on a daily basis and dont want it to smell awful, so I picked up one of these refurbished or something for like $100.
I run it every day and you cant even tell somebody has been smoking in my house after a short bit. HEPA filters literally remove the smoke particles. Carbon pre-filters help reduce smells.

I got this one for $115 a few years ago and it's been amazing. Honeywell is a good brand and the filters aren't too expensive to replace.
He is absolutely adorable! If our little guy is any indication, this kitten will add so much joy to your life :)
Glad to hear your allergies aren't acting up! I would recommend getting an air filter for prophylactic anti-allergy measures. We have this one and it helps my husband a lot.
