Okay here's the the worst kept secret in teaching. Your first year is hell. I think it's a secret initiation right that none of us signed up for.

Here is a good bookThis is a also a good book

Behavior plan is going to be your life raft here. I can give you some resources to help build it.

Start with a simple set of rules.  Don't overwhelm them with a list of 56 rules. Post them on the wall on a project sized poster paper. Here is what I suggest:

  1. Listen and follow directions quickly.
  2. Raise your hand before speaking or leaving your seat.
  3. Keep your hands and feet to yourself. (This can be modified for grade level)
  4. Respect your classmates and your teacher.

Here is an excellent article by Edutopia

This is mainly for elementary but it has good takeaway for any grade level

    Punishment vs logical consequences

This has some information on discipline

So let's talk about you. I've been practicing something called mindfulness. Its something that is a fad in education but it works on the individual level. I think it will really help you. The best part of it is your forces to stop to initially practice it and then you can incorporate it into your day to day. I really need to get back to practicing but when shit hits the fan in my class I can do what I call finding my zen. I can take a couple deep breathes, close my eyes for about 3 seconds, and find a tiny bit of calmness in my life. It helps a lot with stress and anxiety. Inner Health Studio is where I found the most information. They have an app for iPhones called Guided Mind. They also have just the guided practices on another app for iPhone called Relaxation by Inner Health Studio. You can get it for Android through Pod Bean. I just check and the Guided Mind app is available on the google app store.

Everyday is a new day. Remember that. You'll make it.
